I just shipped v0.1.0 of Download Organizer! π
I built it because my Downloads folder was always a mess.
It automatically organizes files, lets you preview changes before moving anything, and supports undo.
Built with Tauri 2, Rust & React.

@ymgbuilds That's already part of the app! π
Before moving anything, Download Organizer shows you exactly which files will be moved and where they'll go. You can review the entire plan and choose what you want to organize. Nothing is changed until you confirm!
I got tired of my messy Downloads folder, so I built an app to organize it for me.
Before β After. In seconds.
Free, open source, and built with Tauri + Rust.

@casparbuilds Itβs actually already implemented! π You can enable automatic organization, and the app keeps running in the system tray when you close the window. Thereβs also an option to start it with Windows. Both are disabled by default, though!
@casparbuilds Files are sorted by type by default. In v0.1.2, you can add rules like *.stl, invoice*.pdf, or file?.txt
(* = any text; ? = one character)
The first matching rule wins, and you can preview before applying. Give it a try and let me know what you think! π
Discord is rebuilding its apps from scratch in Rust!
Discord CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy confirmed they are ditching Electron and React Native. The new client is fully written in Rust and uses GPUI for rendering.
Early preview show massive performance gains:
- RAM usage dropped to ~290 MB (down from ~2 GB)
- Single, lightweight process instead of endless Chromium helpers
@Joshua_WD Exactly! Thatβs one of the reasons I went with Tauri + Rust. For a simple utility like this, keeping it lightweight and resource-efficient just makes sense. π
@topphamilia Thanks a lot! Glad the before/after landed well. Completely agree β organic content around folder organizers has huge potential. If you want any suggestions, just let me know!
Your Downloads folder, your rules. π
Download Organizer v0.1.2 now supports custom file rules!
Automatically send files to your own folders using patterns like *.stl or invoice*.pdf.
Free, open source, and built with Tauri + Rust.

@CB20si HAHAHA thank you! π
I wanted to make sure people could see exactly what would happen to their files before moving anything. And having an undo button definitely helps with peace of mind!
Really appreciate the support! π

@lilpromptgoblin LOL π
I shipped Download Organizer, a free, open-source Windows app that automatically sorts files into folders.
Nothing groundbreaking, but seeing real people download something I made feels awesome!
Here's the repo if you're curious: https://t.co/qCyzQ17sLq
Small update on Download Organizer π
In about 2 days, the first public release reached:
β 12 GitHub stars
π¦ 38 installer downloads
π΄ 1 fork
Built with Tauri, Rust and React.
Really motivating to see people discovering the project and showing interest.π

@AppLauncher_App Thanks! I've used Electron too, but wanted a lightweight app with Rust handling file operations.
Tauri lets me use React for the UI and the system WebView instead of bundling Chromium.
Both are great, but Tauri made more sense for this project!π
@lilpromptgoblin LMAO, we all start somewhere π
I was staring at zero downloads just a couple of days ago, so every single one feels like a win.
Now I'm curious, what are you building with those 14 domains? π
Download Organizer v0.1.1 is out! π
You can now:
β Select or skip individual files
β Rename conflicting files
β Move files across drives
β Keep it running in the system tray
Plus automatic updates!
Free, open source & Windows 11 only for now.

@LivePublicatorX Thanks! π Keeping users' files safe is one of my biggest priorities.
I already maintain a changelog, and adding dates to each version is a great suggestion!
I actually just released v0.1.1 today with several improvements. Really appreciate the feedback! π
@ClaudioSonnet Hahaha, exactly! π I keep checking the GitHub download count too. Every time it goes up, it's a little victory!
Wishing you success with your projects as well! π
@ClaudioSonnet Thanks! π
It's definitely been a challenge getting the word out, but seeing people discover the project makes it all worth it.
Every single download means a lot, especially at this stage! π
@JayLu03386264 Thanks! π
The app has no telemetry, so I can't measure retention. I think the real "aha" moment is reviewing the preview, organizing files, and then choosing to enable automatic organization.
For now, user feedback is my best signal! π
