An aerial view of our #1943dotave project when it was under construction. The legibility of each unit is expressed by pushing in every other unit’s façade to create individuality and relate in scale to the neighborhood’s ubiquitous triple-decker.
Our Sawmill multi-family project is inspired by the industrial history of the area. Each building has several distinct live/work units allowing home occupations that reflect today's varied working lifestyle.
Franklin Residence: Update – The exterior is complete! The home features an open floor plan, street facing semi-private porches, a large window wall facing the forest, and concrete floors. Wood cabinetry and accent walls create a warm modern interior.
Thank you @LaCantina for selecting us as “The Most Innovative Project” in your 4th Annual “The Best of LaCantina” design competition! And thank you @Architizer for publishing it.
We love when our clients send us photos of them enjoying their new contemporary homes! This Modern farmhouse in Tennessee floats above the rolling hills blanketed with wildflowers.
Chatham Residence: Detail Look – In modern construction, coordinating framing with finishes is critical. In this detail, the framing of the overhang is held back to allow the built-up finishes of the siding and fascia to slide past each other, preserving the flush alignment.
A few interior views of our Taylor Metcalf Residence. Simple design elements, an expansive living space, and simple finishes tailored to the owner’s lifestyle form this interior.
Franklin Residence: Update – Exterior cladding is nearly complete! The exterior of the home is completely wrapped in corrugated and perforated metal to reinforce the simple monolithic form of the house like a rock outcropping perched on the hillside. Wood accents warm the entry.
Chatham Residence: Update – Framing is well underway! The forms of the pavilions, experienced from both outside and within the building, are traditional but stripped of their ornamentation and flourish to bridge the vernacular and contemporary sensibilities of the client.
Finished exterior views of our Taylor-Metcalf Residence. We love how the weathered steel panels turned out. We also wouldn’t mind hanging out on that second level exterior patio in the San Diego sun!
We used a nesting software to lay out the exterior weathering steel panels efficiently and prescriptively for our Taylor-Metcalf Residence. We often have façade layouts that have specific relationships to various elements in our designs.
In our Adapter proposal we explored the sectional relationship of using periscopes to bounce light in and allow users to view the surrounding city through a different lens.
Projects with small budgets require elevating spaces with simple materials and off the shelf products! In our Dot Ave lobby, a metal mesh ceiling gives a feeling of lightness, is low maintenance, and is interesting and unique. Stained plywood w/ a patterning recalls the exterior!
Our Southern Pines Residence features a unique roof with a sculpted ceiling plane, angled fascia, and far-flying cantilevers. We utilized parametric design principles to achieve the form, ensuring it simultaneously meets our functional, aesthetic, and constructability goals.
We’re very excited to see this unique, simple, and inviting café design come to life for our friends @thirdcliffbakery ! Thanks to @wiliedesignbuild and crew for pulling off the tight detailing.
