@EliBenSasson@ArthurB rush thru door is to avoid an arbitrum style 'sendUnsignedTransactionOverride', theres no rush here since theres no proposed fix
shielded+turnstile creates unique plausible deniability for slow extraction compared to transparent chains
also plustoken hack didn't dump their btc
if unbacked zec exists the worst thing for a hacker to do is max extract:
- patch won't stop potential invalid notes
- fud could limit shield outflows
based on prop and team, nobody would notice until turnstile is maxed
not sure why some claim fast extract would be the strategy
How to gauge the Zcash situation (not investment advice):
If a hacker has used the exploit, likely we’ll know over next couple of days.
Why? Hacker will rush to the turnstile to unshield and cash out.
The more days pass by without that happening, the less likely that the exploit was used.
Disclaimer: I am not involved in Zcash in any capacity these days and do not speak on its behalf.
@gazza_jenks@EliBenSasson odds unknown, any sophisticated actor would do the opposite of the OP though and would pace withdrawals
the proposed patch would also not affect this so there's no need for a potential hacker to exit the system before it
@DCinvestor sadly not misstating it, team confirmed unbacked shielded is a possibility and if the mint was abused and withdrawn to unshielded then honest holders could be stuck in orchard
