No Subsidy
- Energy and Transportation cost goes up
- This will eventually result to inflation
- All the economic progress in the last 6 to 12 months will revert to zero
- More money for governors to share may weaken the Naira
Temporary Subsidy
- No significant difference in FAC.
- Energy, Logistics and local Food prices remain same
- inflation is manageable
- score political points, pro-people
- marginal subsidy corruption if not properly managed
There is no wrong answer
China ๐จ๐ณ will not enter the war, they donโt have war experience and itโs not their primary ambition, they will seek other sources for energy.
Russia is too stretched dealing with Ukraine ๐บ๐ฆ. They canโt afford a parallel war. I hear the USA is lifting sanctions to allow Russia trade.
America ๐บ๐ธ will persist until Iran folds.
Nigeria should harvest this opportunity, since the middle east seems to be too volatile for FDI now. We can attract some of these funds expand our production and renegotiate with OPEC to increase our production quota. If we are able to get a 3mbpd cap deal, it will solve 3 key problems for our Economy.
1. We will have enough FX supply, this will drop exchange rates, straighten the Naira and curb inflation.
2. Local Refineries will have enough Crude supply, FG can then decide to subsidise crude NOT petrol or continue their crude in Naira initiative.
3. There will more revenue for FG, State & Local Government, as well as a significant increase in our Foreign Reserves. - this trickles down to a lot of other economic benefits
Firstly, Nigeria needs to legislate how excess crude earnings are managed or spent.
@Bond_not_james Yes, OPEC controlsโฆ we currently do about 1.5mbpd (official). Sometime in 2012-14 we were at 2.4mbpd approved by OPEC, What changed?
Yes we need billions of $ (FDI) for exploration, this ought to be the FG priority since assuming office - increase production.
@DAMIADENUGA I saw this decline two years ago & exited the market. The most viable path to evolve is the Resort Cities. We can take a queue from Sharm El Shiekh, Egypt.

@BiaPulse Whilst the figure looks off, if 500,000 bpd is stolen in 8 years itโs possible they would have saved up that money. This money wasnโt stolen once it was overtime,
Nigeria records 1.5m bpd now, during GEJ we were at 2.4m bpd. Even during GEJ there was oil theft.
