When the Kings picked up Keon's option, we were told we can't be mad until we see how it plays out
Now that it has played out in a shitty way, we're being told we can't be mad because it was inevitable Ellis was leaving.
WHEN EXACTLY can we be mad this team is wasting assets?
You really don't see the problem with using a young asset like Ellis to dump a contract you handed out five months ago? To acquire a win-now piece and add salary for two years? All of this is maddeningly incoherent. Nobody has any clue what they are doing
@MattGeorgeSAC we didn’t pay keon so we could pay dennis. then we swore we had to get a first for keon. then we had to attach keon to get off of dennis, got no first, AND lost a second. for a 28 year old that has no use on a bad team. and you see no issue with this?
noooo scott i love being blitzed by the entire nba. i really really love half my timeline split between “the kings are fucking idiots and need to be relegated” and “poor kings fans they don’t deserve this” nooooo i LOVE that
- picked up Keon's option instead of declining it to make him a restricted free agent
- gave Schroder $15 million annually using MLE instead of using it to pay Keon
- tank both Schroder and Keon's value by mid-November
- attach Keon with Schroder to offload his contract
According to a league source, the Kings are excited to pair De'Andre Hunter with Keegan Murray. They also cleared out the backcourt glut, which opens opportunities for rookie Nique Clifford.
From what I understand, Scott Perry and the Kings chose Hunter, a veteran wing that fits the franchise's vision going forward, plus the ability to move on from a contract like Schroder's, over below average draft picks and dead money expiring deals.
