@PippaBroadhurst@BBCSport I’m not laughing at anyone, I’m just observing the extent to which we have been reduced to caricatures of our true (human, complex, contradictory, sometimes foolish) selves by the dogmatic certainties of the online world.
@PippaBroadhurst@BBCSport I have, and I’ve seen that talk of his before. I am very pro free speech, except where it incites violence or other crimes. My comments aren’t negative, they are observations about the relentless negativity of others.
@PippaBroadhurst@BBCSport Haha yes the one thing all the negative people on here are enthusiastic for is the right to free speech. I don’t disagree but it would be lovely to see people using the forum for things they love that others might not have come across!
@PippaBroadhurst@BBCSport Possibly, but there was an awful lot of ‘disgusting’, ‘pathetic’ ‘deplorable’ ‘should lose the rights’, ‘not paying the licence fee’. We have rather lost what I would have regarded as our British view of the world, which was more one of understated wry amusement
@PippaBroadhurst@BBCSport Of course they do- that’s what this site is! It’s the lack of proportion that always strikes me. And I suppose the fact that people always talk about what or who they hate, not about something they’ve seen which makes them happy!
@PippaBroadhurst@BBCSport Again, that’s a very reductive response isn’t it? It’s reliable almost all of the time. Very occasionally they drop a ball. These things happen. We used to accept that. Now we feel entitled to say that they are a disgrace etc. that’s what social media is doing to us.
@cornwall70001 It’s a waste of all our time tbf. We are the product. The lost generation who allowed the tech bros to turn us from nuanced, empathetic beings into anonymous cyphers. A poor use of our lives, and our essential humanity, no?
@cornwall70001 I don’t think any Government ministers should engage on here. They have a mandate to get on with their jobs. Then we have elections. They shouldn’t be arguing with individuals, most of whom just want to insult them. It’s a waste of their time.
@cornwall70001 Why should she do that? She is saying that this is no longer a place where reasoned debates occur. On that point, she’s obviously right.
@PippaBroadhurst@BBCSport It doesn’t mean that at all though. Very little live sport is affected by this. Wimbledon is and always has been. If you want to avoid this risk, then you can do so by watching Wimbledon on iplayer. That should address your concern.
