Title: India’s WTO Moment Is Now
Introduction
The editorial argues that India must assume a proactive leadership role in reforming the World Trade Organization (WTO) to protect the interests of the Global South. Amid unilateral tariffs, geopolitical fragmentation and weakening multilateral institutions, India has an opportunity to reshape global trade governance around equity, developmental flexibility and inclusive growth.
Main Facts in Details
* Crisis of Multilateralism: Unilateral tariffs and geopolitical conflicts are undermining the rules-based international trading system.
* Special and Differential Treatment (S&DT): Developing countries require policy flexibility to pursue industrialisation, food security and poverty reduction.
* Rise of Emerging Economies: Emerging Market Economies (EMEs) have become major drivers of global trade, challenging the traditional developed–developing country divide.
* Consensus Dilemma: WTO decision-making by consensus protects smaller countries but allows individual members to obstruct collective agreements.
* Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Principle: Non-discriminatory trade treatment is increasingly weakened by unilateral tariffs and preferential trade agreements.
* Dispute Settlement Crisis: The paralysis of the WTO Appellate Body has weakened enforcement of international trade rules.
* Plurilateral Agreements: Issue-specific agreements can advance cooperation, but must not marginalise countries outside the negotiating framework.
Challenges
* Fragmentation of global trade governance.
* Divergent developmental priorities among WTO members.
* Agricultural subsidies and food-security concerns.
* Weak enforcement of multilateral trade rules.
* Tensions between national policy autonomy and trade liberalisation.
Constructive Criticism
India must avoid becoming merely a defensive negotiator. However, reforms should not impose uniform obligations on economies with unequal developmental capacities or dilute protections for vulnerable farmers.
Way Forward
* Build coalitions with the EU, Canada and other middle powers.
* Preserve meaningful S&DT provisions for developing countries.
* Reform consensus-based decision-making without weakening smaller states.
* Restore an effective, impartial dispute-settlement mechanism.
* Promote balanced agricultural reforms and inclusive plurilateral negotiations.

Conclusion
India’s WTO moment is an opportunity to transform economic weight into institutional leadership. A legitimate global trading order must reconcile market access with developmental justice, ensuring that international trade becomes an instrument of shared prosperity rather than structural inequality.

Great interview at 🇵🇱 TV World with respected Member of Raja Sabha, former deputy foreign minister 🇮🇳 @harshvshringla on upcoming visit of 🇵🇱 PM to India.
There were hard questions about 🇷🇺👇
Poland’s Prime Minister @donaldtusk will visit India from tomorrow at the invitation of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji. The visit provides an opportunity to strengthen India–Poland ties, expand trade and investment, and explore new avenues of cooperation.
During my visit to Warsaw (13–16 October), I spoke with @TVPWorld_com about the potential of the India–Poland partnership, the strengths of our respective economies, and our differing approaches to Russian oil. I discussed India’s continued purchase of Russian crude from the point of view of ensuring stable supplies and affordable prices for a population of around 1.5 billion and global energy security.

India categorically rejects anti-India references at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Baghdad
" The references to India are malicious, biased, and false, and have been orchestrated by Pakistan.
We are disappointed that the OIC has once again allowed itself to be misused by Pakistan for its bigoted agenda: " @MEAIndia
80 years in service of the nation today. It was on this day in 1946 that the #IndianForeignService was created. Happy #IFSDay to all my @indiandiplomats colleagues. May #IFS go from strength to strength in taking India to the world and bringing the world to India 🇮🇳
Good to join Ambassador Harsh Vardhan Shringla at Asia Society Policy Institute in Delhi for a wide-ranging discussion on Asia’s geopolitical future.
We covered the changing strategic balance between the United States and China, India’s growing economic and geopolitical weight, relations with Beijing, and the future of the Quad.
Honoured to engage with Dr. @MrKRudd, former Prime Minister of Australia and Global President & CEO of @AsiaSociety, during his first visit to India since returning to lead the organisation.
Our conversation focused on Asia’s evolving strategic architecture and geopolitical future, including the changing regional landscape, India’s growing role in shaping Asia’s trajectory, and the opportunities for deeper engagement across the Indo-Pacific.
It was a privilege to exchange perspectives with one of the leading global voices on Asia, international affairs and the forces shaping our region.

I truly enjoyed my interaction with young entrepreneurs at the 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 & 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲. Meeting founders behind AI Hive, Ask Himalaya, @AisVitae, Burger Cartel, Coffeelicious, Dewy Secrets, Elysian Co., Shaping Ideas, Syangs and The Crimp Climbing Station was a wonderful reminder of the innovative ideas, confidence and determination driving our young people. Their entrepreneurial spirit left me deeply encouraged and reflects the immense potential of our Yuva Shakti.
This is the #YuvaShakti that will drive India’s journey towards Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of a #ViksitBharat2047.

At #HRC63, Ambassador Dr. Salma Rasheed delivered a statement during the Item 10 General Debate, highlighting that technical assistance and capacity building remain indispensable to advance the promotion and protection of human rights, particularly for States with limited institutional and financial capacities such as SIDS and LDCs.
She expressed appreciation to the donors that sustain the efforts of OHCHR, the LDC/SIDS Trust Fund and the UPR Voluntary Fund and encouraged continued and, where possible, strengthened contributions to programmes that provide responsive, and needs based assistance, particularly to SIDS and LDCs.
