Trump Appoints Bill Pulte as Acting DNI to Fire Staff and Shrink Intelligence Agency

President Trump openly admitted in a new Wall Street Journal interview that he appointed Bill Pulte as acting Director of National Intelligence primarily to begin firing staff and dramatically downsizing the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

Trump called the agency too big and said it has many people who shouldn’t be there. He encouraged Pulte to move aggressively on staff cuts and noted that the future permanent DNI should continue the reductions.

This fits into the broader Trump administration push to reduce what they view as a bloated federal bureaucracy, particularly in the intelligence community.
