Today in science, Year 2 were thinking about why certain materials are chosen for specific uses. This young man gave some super explanations when thinking about the parts of a bike.

In today’s art lesson, the children were exploring straight and curved lines in architecture. We had a go at drawing the other half of Big Ben, with some super results! The children were (quite rightly!) very proud of their work. 😊

How gorgeous are our Brian Wildsmith inspired calendars? We’ve been studying his art work in Year 2 and practising some of the techniques he used, which we’ve included in this final piece. We are so proud of how they’ve turned out. 💛 #Thurlstone_art
The woodlice didn’t behave as Year 2 expected them to in yesterday’s experiment but I guess that’s science for you. 😆 This young man achieved an ‘H⭐️’ for his beautifully presented results and conclusion. #Thurlstone_science
We’ve had another H⭐️ for beautiful handwriting in the Wise Owls, this time in our history lesson. I can’t believe the improvements this young man has made to his handwriting recently. I’m a very proud teacher. 😊 #Thurlstone_history#Thurlstone_handwriting
In our RE lessons, we thought about what Christians include in their prayers. We studied The Lord’s Prayer, then used the Jelly Baby structure to help us create our own prayers. #Thurlstone_re#Thurlstone_writing
In our art lessons, we’ve been looking at paint layering and sgraffito (scratching into the paint). We used our new skills to create these sgraffito trees for our whole school winter-themed display. #Thurlstone_art
In our art lesson, we were working on creating different tones by adjusting the pressure of the pencil on the page. Our owl line drawings were inspired by the artist we have been studying, Brian Wildsmith. #Thurlstone_art@Thurlstone_Y2
Miss Brown’s favourite lesson: making the wormery! 😆 We asked the question, “What do worms do to the soil?” We made a wormery so that we can observe over time, before making our own predictions. #Thurlstone_science
We counted the votes and our winning party was…
THE GO GREEN PARTY! 🟢
Well done to everyone who took part. UK Parliament Week has been an absolute blast and we’ve learnt so much.
We look forward to working with our winning party.

The ‘Mobile Polling Station’ has been around school and all of the votes have been cast for today’s election. All that’s left to do now is count the votes! Exciting times at TPS. 😁 #Thurlstone_personaldevelopment#UKPW
UK Parliament Week is in full swing! Our party leaders presented their manifestos today and the ballot papers are all ready for Polling Day tomorrow. Who’s going to win? Stay tuned to find out.

Continuing our work on the peace that Christians believe Jesus brings, we thought about our own peaceful places in this week’s RE lesson. Some children included words in their art work, inspired by the work of artist Hannah Dunnett.

The Year 2 children have been experimenting with sgraffito (scratching into the paint) as part of their art topic. We think these will look great on our whole-school ‘Winter Trees’ display.🌲#thurlstone_art@Thurlstone_Y2@Thurlstonesch
Our fabulous Year 5 Peer Wellbeing Champions received their certificates and pin badges today after being trained by the lovely Emma from @CompassBeMHST. They are so excited about their new role in school. 💛
