Healthy soils are essential for food security and agriculture. They store carbon, filter water, and support diverse plant and animal life. Practices such as regenerative agriculture can enhance soil health and increase its capacity to sequester carbon.
The mud bath is a highlight for every orphan, especially on those hot days! Our Voi orphans are having the time of their lives, splashing around and cooling off in the mud. It’s a joyful ritual that not only helps regulate their body temperature but also strengthens their bonds and keeps their skin healthy. 🐘💦
Cats, like our lions, naturally use their claws for hunting and capturing prey, marking territory by clawing trees and other objects, and defending themselves against predators. We provide the cats with logs and poles to stretch on and mark, but one thing that consistently proves popular with all the cats and is easy to find is the classic cardboard box. If you have cats at home, you’re likely familiar with their love of shredding and tearing things—big cats are no different, and we encourage this behavior! 🦁
While we offer many other enrichment items, we keep the boxes in rotation because they are always a favorite. 📦😂
In a zoo environment, we strive to give our animals the opportunity to perform the behaviors they would naturally exhibit in the wild as often as possible. Keepers provide them with enrichment like the boxes to keep their minds sharp and their bodies active, and keepers work hard to come up with new ideas every day! 💡❤️

Our zoo is saying farewell to African lion Kalu, who will leave this fall to make a new home at another AZA facility. Kalu’s relocation is part of a recommendation through AZA’s Species Survival Plan. He’ll gain the opportunity to start his own pride.
10 years ago on this day, several countries in Asia signed the Bishkek Declaration and established International Snow Leopard Day. The goal is to bring awareness and conservation of this valuable icon in the Himalayas and surrounding cold climate regions
This weekend is your LAST chance to go big or "gourd" home at Boo at the Zoo this year! 🎃 https://t.co/RDXR4zelOW
