New preprint on my molecular evolution work with @JohnStinchcombe and @ME_Frederickson! Inspired by work in parasite literature, we looked for evidence of increased rates of molecular evolution in mutualistic interactions. What did we find?
Although we find high rates of molecular evolution across mutualist genomes, symbiosis genes do not show evidence of ongoing coevolution. We would be happy to hear your feedback and ideas on our work!
I'm going to be presenting at #TAGC24 tomorrow at 12:00 in the Plant Evolutionary Genetics session. Come check it out if you're interested in plant ecological genetics, GxE for complex traits, or if you would like to hear about some snowy Arabidopsis!
The Kreiner and Carley Labs at @UChicago E&E are co-hiring a Lab Manager/Research Technician position in Plant Evolutionary Ecology & Genomics.

I am thrilled to share our work on ants from the #Galapagos! By combining fieldwork and museum specimens, we studied more than 382,000 introduced and endemic ants in the islands. Thanks to @EspochRio, @DarwinFound, @Galapagospark and @BelgianNatural! https://t.co/heklundNep
Surprisingly, we saw a decrease in diversity and increase in abundance of anaerobic taxa in treatments with high concentrations of organic de-icers. The drastic shift in the bacterial community suggests that organic de-icers may not be as “eco-friendly” as initially anticipated!
The impacts of traditional, inorganic, and organic de-icers were tested on lake water bacterial community assembly in a mesocosm experiment at @QUBioStation. After 6 weeks, the 16S rRNA locus was sequenced in bacterial community samples.
Our team combines perspectives from molecular biologists, microbiologists, and ecologists including @troymartinlimno, Collin Juurakko, @ShelleyArnott, and Virginia Walker
Do you use salt on your icy driveway? There are lots of de-icer options currently available. Before you make your choice, check out this work I had the opportunity to contribute to as part of a collaborative team at @QueensUBio https://t.co/1AzlycyWBe
Excited to share this recent interview for the Grassroots podcast! Talking all about our recent paper on microplastics in food @OurOcean https://t.co/Jj3IyC5fhK
🫵 We need your input!! 🫵
We are planning an event focused on the experiences of disability & neurodivergence in grad school. Please fill this questionnaire to help us w the process: https://t.co/NDiUcyaIrm
One of my PhD projects with @JohnStinchcombe and @ME_Frederickson is now published in Molecular Ecology! We uncovered a latitudinal diversity gradient in non-rhizobia microbes associated with C. nictitans plants but not in rhizobia. https://t.co/tUddGhXuvf
I too am recruiting graduate students, postdocs, and a lab technician for my group at UChicago, starting fall 2024! We will be doing exciting work to uncover the limits of plant adaptation in changing environments.
Tonight (July 25) I will be presenting my poster #724 in the San Paolo Cloisters for #SMBE2023! Come by to see how symbiosis with rhizobia impacts rates of molecular evolution in legumes
My microbes and I have moved! I officially started as a postdoc in the @George_diCenzo lab @QueensUBio this month. Excited to be continuing my work on legume-rhizobium interactions while learning some new molecular biology techniques 😀
