The Amhara regional government denounced the alleged "brutal execution" of at least four elders by #Fano armed groups, accusing them of being members of the recently established regional peace council. Social media reports put the number of casualties as high as 11.

The statement revealed that 13 other local elders remain in the hands of the Fano armed groups, enduring "inhumane punishment and torture." The elders were rounded up while returning from #Bahir_Dar to their village, Gerchicha, in the South Mecha District of the North #Gojjam Zone.

A widely circulated video on social media depicted the elders being forced to crawl on their knees, with captions identifying them as members of the peace council. The regional government condemned the killings, stating it is impossible to achieve any objective by killing innocent citizens and called on the public to condemn the extremist group.
