We are pleased to announce the country's first of its kind installation of the solar micro-grid in the Alexandra informal settlement.

The purpose of this innovative and clean energy project is to provide reliable electricity supply to the informal dwellers, by harnessing the power of the sun. 

This is part of the Province's commitment to renewable and sustainable energy along with a move towards unburdening Eskom by reducing our over reliance on the Power utility.

The work of mounting a 1MVA solar grid that will provide electricity to around 200 households, is progressing well, with the team anticipating the completion of the pilot project before the end of next month (February 2024).

The microgrids are, in a nutshell, local electricity grids that serve small populations, often powered by renewable resources and able to function independently from a larger network.
