@airtelindia@Airtel_Presence Really irritated with your service and support. Recently I travelled to Arunachal Pradesh and i got charged two IR day packs. Now being in India (Arunachal is still in India), I don’t understand why this happened. (1/3)
@ticktorque Hi Raktim, we are here to assist. Allow us to intervene here and get this resolved on priority. All we need is your respective Airtel number. We are waiting for your details via DM. Thanks, Anjali D https://t.co/2G23qpK1Kp
@airtelindia@Airtel_Presence Now, when I am in India, can i not use my phone in Arunachal? I didn’t activate IR either. Also, if Airtel cannot properly locate networks and people, is it my fault. Is there a solution to this? Or is this how airtel works?
@airtelindia@Airtel_Presence Now, when i spoke chatted with your customer care team, one assured it will be sorted but another straight up told me that since it happened i need to pay. Does that mean Airtel is inefficient to ascertain my location and will charge me (2/3)
@apdclsocial There has been frequent and consistent power cuts near kalakhetra area. The cus care no is not reachable and one particular phase is always affected. Can we have a proper solution?
@redBus_in Had a rly bad exp as the advt bus was a Volvo multiaxle B11R and the actual one that came was a normal bus. Bad roads and bad customer service at red bus is not helping either. #wronglisting#badservice#charteredbus#wrongbus
Back in 1998, my cousin @ticktorque and I made the 'perfect' plan to propose to Martina Hingis.
Yep, that's right. We were ambitious.
But life was quite different back then. No internet, no smartphones. Reaching Martina wasn't as simple as sliding into her Insta or Twitter DMs.
She was world #1 women tennis player & she resided in Switzerland.
And we were, well... two teenage Indian boys doing stunts on bicycles. (riding without holding the handlebars, etc.)
But we had a solid plan.
---
A bit of background:
Our fascination with Martina began when she rose to worldwide fame winning one grand slam after another. She was few years older than us, but we thought 'pyar me chalta hai' (Everything's fair in love)
There was this sports magazine called 'Sportstar' we used to buy regularly not to read the news, but for only one reason:
It always included a full-sized poster of a celebrity sportsperson.
So we had Sachin on one wall and Martina on the other in our bedrooms.
---
We were so smitten by her that we had decided that we would marry her.
Don't ask me how both of us planned to marry the same woman. I asked my cousin today about it, and here's what we has to say:
"Get married, i don’t know how. Polygamy and shit but something was on 😂"
And in those days, proposing marriage was a simple affair: you just have to say, "I love you, will you marry me."
These magical words were to be told to crushes at school, tuition classes etc.
So it seemed natural to apply this to Martina as well. Or so we thought.
But the problem is how to tell her? Or how to reach her?
---
Coincidentally, during the same time, my dad had returned from an official trip to Switzerland.
Among other things, he brought back a small city guide booklet for the city of Zurich.
My cousin and I flipped through all the pages until we luckily found a yellow-pages number.
And right then, the genius idea was born.
1. Call the yellow-pages number, ask for Martina Hingis' residence phone number.
2. Then call up her residence, ask for Martina.
3. Once she's on the line, propose to her.
We were sorted.
---
Only problem is that nobody had international calling at our home landlines. It was only local and STD.
For international calls, you had to visit a local PCO and make an ISD call.
ISD calls were super expensive. And we were broke as hell.
Pocket money? Never heard of that.
---
We decided to visit a local PCO to find out the cost of ISD call to Switzerland.
Because once we know how much money we would need, we can start thinking of ways.
So my cousin volunteered to ask the PCO wale uncle about the cost. The uncle smirked at my cousin and said something like Rs 250 per minute.
We quickly did the math:
1. Call to yellow pages: 1 minute = Rs 250
2. Call up the residence: 1 minute to summon Martina = Rs. 250
3. Express our love to her: 1 min per person = 2 min = Rs 500
Total = Rs. 1,000
We were disheartened.
---
With hopes in our heart, and bicycles by our side, we promised each other to keep saving till we have thousand bucks.
We knew it was going to take some time.
But we never realized that, by the time we actually had a few hundred rupees in our pockets, our obsession with Martina would be over.
Enter the personal computer era. And dial-up modem. And slow speed internet.
From Martina's prospective husband(s) to Internet hi meri dulhan hai (Internet is my bride), thank god those phone calls never happened.
---
Today it's fairly simple to tag Ms. Hingis. Just tag her @mhingis and be done with it.
Before I sound like that middle-aged uncle who keeps saying, "Those were the days", let me say that 90s were actually the best!
Wouldn't it be crazy to get a response from Martina herself. Or just a 💖 maybe.
Oh, who am I kidding.
Hope you enjoyed reading.
