Young me : someone with power makes crazy decisions, wow, are they stupid or mad?
Old me : someone with power makes crazy decisions, wow, I wonder who's paying them?
Don Rickles never recorded a single line for Toy Story 4. He'd signed on to return as Mr. Potato Head, then died in April 2017 before filming began.
His family contacted Pixar afterward and asked if there was any way to keep him in the film anyway.
Director Josh Cooley and his team went back through twenty-five years of material. Every unused take from the first three films. Theme park recordings. Video games. Ice Capades appearances. Anything Rickles had ever said in that voice.
They built his entire performance for Toy Story 4 out of scraps nobody had used before. The film was released in 2019, dedicated to his memory.
@AnnetteMckay15 Oh thank goodness. My brother stopped visiting a relative because he found them 'annoying' and started visiting again when they had died. Typical of him I'm afraid.

Hi, I've just bought a gift card for a wedding. In order to scan it the assistant had to scrub away at the strip of foil to reveal the bar code. It now looks a mess and I'm going to have to explain that the card is legit. Who on earth thought this up?
Absolutely shocking & deeply discriminatory language from this Aberdeen school. Christmas cards are Christmas cards, they are part of our culture, traditions & celebrations. No school should erase, undermine or dictate which aspects of our culture we are allowed to celebrate.
Rhiannon's killer was Deng Chol Majek, a Sudanese illegal migrant who had entered Britain by small boat less than three months earlier. He was housed, fed, clothed, and protected by the taxpayer. He stalked Rhiannon after her shift. Followed her to a deserted train platform while she was speaking to her family on the phone. He stabbed her twenty-three times with a screwdriver. Then he went back to the hotel, bought beer, and danced in the car park. That sequence matters. Not for shock value, but for responsibility.
Majek should never have been there. Not in Britain. Not in that hotel. Not near unprotected women doing their jobs. He lied about his age. He had been observed staring at female staff. Police had been called repeatedly to the hotel. Former staff warned it was a ticking time bomb. The warnings were known. They were ignored. This is the real cost of the Channel crossings con. Not statistics. Not slogans. Lives.
1 October: about 700 walked out early because the prisons are full.
13 October: another 650 are due out. Sentences of up to two years and five months, released at a third.
Still a cell for the man who pleaded not guilty to slashing a dinghy. Trial in March.
Same country. Different rules.
๐ฏ๏ธ IN MEMORY On this day in 2004, British civil engineer Kenneth John Bigley was murdered by his captors in Iraq after three terrible weeks as a hostage.
Ken, a 62-year-old Liverpudlian, was working on reconstruction projects in Baghdad when armed militants abducted him from his home on 16th September 2004.
Taken alongside him were his American colleagues:
Eugene Armstrong
Jack Hensley
Eugene and Jack were murdered several days after the kidnapping. Ken remained in captivity until 7th October. During those agonising weeks, people from many countries, faiths and political backgrounds appealed for his life.
Christian and Muslim leaders gathered in Liverpool to pray for his safe return. The Muslim Council of Britain condemned the kidnapping and sent a delegation to Iraq to plead for his release. The British and Irish governments, international leaders and, above all, Kenโs family worked desperately to bring him home. Their efforts could not overcome the cruelty of the men holding him.
Ken Bigley, Eugene Armstrong and Jack Hensley were not political symbols or pieces to be used in a conflict.
They were three men doing their jobs. They were husbands, fathers, brothers, colleagues and friends. They were loved and people were waiting for them to come home. Today, we remember all three men and the families who endured unimaginable grief.

May they be remembered not for the cruelty inflicted upon them, but for the lives they lived and the people who loved them.
Rest in peace. ๐ฏ๏ธ
@Jammyjack88 I've never watched a Nigella show, I know she's very popular but I can't stand the way she talks, eats, the obsession with salt. Missing Prue big time.
The Afghan resettlement schemes are a crime committed against the British people, committed in plain sight by Tory ministers.
Almost 40,000 Afghans have been smuggled in.
10 TIMES the number the Tories initially claimed.
They spent ยฃ3.1 billion of your money on these schemes, and that will rise to DOUBLE that within a few years.
Afghan nationals in Britain are 22x more likely to be convicted of sex crimes than Brits.
The Tory ministers who did this do not care.
They boasted about it.
Could not stop gushing about how many they had imported.
The average resettled household has 5.5 people. One man brought 22 family members.
The fraud committed on these schemes is off the charts.
Nobody voted for this.
They must be held to account.
If the Government knows that male migrants are raping women on boats during their journey to the UK, how does letting them into the country align with its stated mission to end violence against women and girls?
The police operation around Gosport is impressive in its scale and organisation. What it proves is that, when it comes to its own priorities, the government can be ruthlessly competent. Incompetence is a policy choice.
Talking to a French coastguard contact (Gus) today - his English not perfect but the point was clear:
So I looked it up he's right!

Under UN Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and UNCLOS, the duty of a coastal state is to STOP overcrowded, unseaworthy vessels leaving its ports.
๐๐๐๐๐๐
If such a vessel is at sea and a French vessel is the first to it, the duty is to take it back to the nearest safe port - which is France.
It is NOT the duty of the UK to then take over the chaperoning of an unsuitable vessel across the Channel.
Stop them at the point of departure. Return them to France if intercepted by French assets. That's what maritime safety law actually says.
It's all in The UN document

Putting people on the wrong sex hormones for their biology comes with a high price, to them, but also the NHS. I saw this first hand with the young East German girls of the 1970s & 80s. ALL are very ill, many prematurely died. Several had children with severe disabilities. ๐
