He could easily make his own website, upload the MP4/mkv/soundtrack/extras/high resartwork/etc, pack it all into one zip file, and not have to split it with many people outside of the cast and crew. No companies and just people making art. Why would he waste time on a D2C service when he already has the marketing and would be seeing way different splits if he released it independently?

Genuinely asking bc it feels like Patreon is trying to sell more than they're able to provide a lot of the time. They (y'all) don't even have lossless audio uploads or 4K video yet as far as I can tell. Why would any film director go there in 2026 when most people have full surround setups and 4K TVs at home? Patreon doesn't have an app for AppleTV, GoogleTV, etc. and the iPhone/web apps are mediocre at best — it'd just be a hard sell to a serious artist imo
