Three weeks ago, I was going to Epe for a meeting. As I was about to enter Epe, I saw policemen pushing a two people into their Van. I sought the permission of the friend I was with and parked. I approached the officers and tried to verify what was going on. They claimed they want to go search them at their station. I asked why, they couldn’t give any reasonable answer and they were already angry that someone was asking questions. I took the opportunity to ask one of the victims for his full name and he gave me his complimentary card instead, awesome and even better for identification purposes.

The guy was already afraid for his life but I told him not to worry that we’d join them at the Station. I asked for the Police station they were taking them to and the officers obliged and drove off wondering where I got the effrontery.

As soon as I entered the Car, I asked the Friend that was with me to call the DPO of the station while I drive and we told him we were on our way to his office and we had just witnessed something and his men were involved. We followed them to the station and the Police officers were already asking the guy to write statement and that they were going to charge the guy for dangerous driving. I was like, how?

You stopped the man and he stopped for you. He wasn’t driving, his driver was and I literally saw you pushing and shoving him and he still maintained his composure. The only thing he did was to ask you to stop harassing him. We went straight to the DPO’s office and addressed him. The DPO, a very accommodating and professional Man (at least, at that point) asked them to release the guy immediately and they did. I’m sure the officers were wondering who we were and I wondered what would have happened to them if we weren’t dedicated to following through and ensuring he was alright. People go missing or even start a lifetime full of trouble just because Policemen decided to abuse their powers.
