🇺🇸🇵🇸 “If they can do this to an American congressman, what can they do to Palestinians?”

Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) was detained for over an hour near Khirbet Zanuta in the occupied West Bank after armed settlers carrying American-made M4 rifles surrounded his van. Khanna said the IDF soldiers who arrived knew an American congressman was in the vehicle and still sided with the settlers rather than helping. Khanna’s group was only released after the U.S. Embassy intervened.

During his days in the West Bank, including Hebron, Bethlehem, Beit Sahour, and Turmus Ayya, Khanna says he witnessed a “culture of impunity.”

He visited the school in Al-Mughayyir, where a 14-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man were killed by settler gunfire earlier this year, and met with Palestinian American families who’ve lost children to Israeli military and settler violence, including the family of Mohammed Zaher Ibrahim, a 16-year-old American citizen from Florida who was held in Israeli prison for over nine months without trial and returned home starving.

Khanna compared the West Bank to the days of Jim Crow in the United States, and says that Americans need to come to the West Bank and see “the apartheid in the West Bank with their own eyes.”

🚑 ⚠️ Gaza’s Health Ministry warns that the territory’s medical transport system is nearing “complete paralysis” amid Israel’s continued ban on the entry of tires and spare parts.

🔹The ministry said 70% of its remaining ambulances and transport vehicles are out of service due to direct Israeli attacks, accumulated mechanical failures and the lack of spare parts.

🔹The vehicles still operating are no longer sufficient to transport patients and medical workers, while buses contracted by the ministry are running under severe mechanical strain after months without routine maintenance.

🔹The ministry warned that Israeli bans and restrictions severely endanger patients’ access to care and medical workers’ ability to reach health facilities.

🇨🇩 M23 fighters abducted more than 50 young people, including minors, from neighborhoods around the Katindo military camp in occupied Goma on the night of July 7, the Karisimbi Urban Youth Council said Thursday. Families fear forced recruitment.

Relatives told the group the youths were rounded up and held at the camp’s stadium, then loaded onto trucks to an unknown destination. The organization called on human rights groups to help trace the children and return them to their parents.

The Rwanda-backed M23 has held Goma, a city of 2 million, since January 2025. It has been a year since the Trump administration’s peace accord with Kigali, built around US access to Congolese minerals, was supposed to wind down the war. The UN Group of Experts’ latest report, published this month, found the rebels now field some 30,000 fighters while Rwanda keeps up to 18,000 troops in eastern Congo, and also documented M23’s systematic forced recruitment, including of children.

Israeli PM Netanyahu went on CNN today to explain away settler violence in the occupied West Bank. His claims, against the documented record:

1️⃣ “It’s about 150 or so juvenile delinquents.”
The UN has documented more than 1,000 settler attacks causing casualties or property damage this year alone, across 230+ communities, six per day, the highest pace ever recorded.

2️⃣ “They’re not from the settler community.”
Amnesty found settlement outposts operate as instruments of a state-backed campaign that has fully or partially displaced 117 Palestinian communities since 2023. US-sanctioned settler Yinon Levi, filmed shooting activist Awda al-Hathaleen dead, founded one.

3️⃣ “We do stop them.”
Levi was released the morning after his arrest and got three days of house arrest; a year on, he is still not indicted. Yesh Din has documented for two decades that the vast majority of investigations close without charges.

4️⃣ “Our courts are very lenient. I don’t know why.”
Netanyahu’s own government has approved or legalized 103 settlements since 2022, retroactively blessing outposts built through violence, and his national security minister distributed guns to settlers.

5️⃣ “It’s not the government of Israel.” Settlement is a project of the Israeli state. The military backs the attacks on the ground: journalist Jasper Nathaniel, has documented the institutional machinery behind settler violence, and filmed IDF soldiers supporting settlers in their assaults on Palestinians.

Asked to commit to look into the killing of Saif Musallet, the Palestinian American beaten to death last year by Jewish settlers: “I’m not sure that. I’ll look into it.”
