MESOS Wed at 12: @ligiaftsouza will show us how biota and soil structure affects soil organic carbon at depth in the Anthropocene. So relevant to us here in Canada: soil dictates how much CO2 boreal forests + tundra can sequester @MemorialUSci@MUN_EarthSci@tillhole
@GeoBrentatlarge@deretur Well, it is a beautiful picture. Obviously ice flow direction is vital for drift prospecting.
But it concernes me that you used "till of the glacial variety"!! WHAT OTHER KIND OF TILL IS THERE? I am surprised that you say you are a Quaternary Geologist, if you don't know that.
@GeoBrentatlarge Doesn’t look like a very good #tillhole. Is this really the best of three? Your other hole was much better but you take what you can get. At least you know the character of the till in the anomaly - thin and probably not very reliable!

@JesseyRice Thanks for being the 1st customer to till hole! But I’m a bit surprised you sent me THIS hole.
Looks heavily oxidized, doubt it’s in the C, sulphides might be gone & mobile cations deeper in the profile. Size matters! You need to go deeper in the boreal forest. Sad!
This is OK. Sample 1.7 m below surface. Ablation till above, becoming denser with better developed fissility with depth. But still brown so at least somewhat oxidized. Indicates how much weathering can happen in the boreal forest. Roadcut, so be hard to dig a pit this deep.

This is a Meh. Not the best exposure, but the bonus is the lodged, elongate, faceted boulder oriented parallel to ice flow. There is ablation till at the top but pretty good basal till around the boulder, but still brown, so weathered. Thus a Meh.

Another bad site. Not till, at least not anymore. Road constructional berm is old, note large trees so I guess they thought in place. They did not notice the buried forest floor.

#tillhole#Quaternary#minex#geochemistry#till
This is the first post of an example of a till geochem sample hole. Problem is, it isn’t till. It isn’t even close to till. It isn’t even in the same universe as till.
This is NOT a good #tillhole.
#minex#till#quaternary#geochem
This is a good site where a sample was taken. It’s dense, compact and note the great fissility. Only downside are the roots, but nothing a finely sharpened shovel can’t get through.
