@mehdirhasan Yet the Fed Govt manages to overspend by $2-3 trillion every year. Thats $6-8 billion overspent daily. But yeah let’s deflect and talk about Musk.
@ZaidJilani Far from the most subsidized (I would say “invested in”) companies out there. Do you hold the same ire for big pharma? Boeing? Companies getting far more have made their owners much less.
@RoKhanna It’s not a difference! The role of govt is to make sure that the spending of capital making Americans prosperous is done in a way that healthcare and education exists well. We can argue about how it does it but step 1 is getting that capital invested!
@bourscheid The Federal government overspends by $2-3 trillion annually but yeah you’d somehow solve everything if only you had a trillion. Why is your ire against those that make the $ instead of those that waste it?
@willjust_@CompletedStreet Bc the numbers don’t work. Costs exceed potential returns. You need millions up front for development before you see a dime back and need lenders & investors. Construction costs, interest rates, land costs, etc etc. Much safer less risky returns elsewhere.
@willjust_@CompletedStreet There are 122k vacant lots in Detroit - 80% are owned by the DLBA, a public authority. You think they aren’t selling bc the DLBA is freeloading? There’s empty fully permitted multi family lots on the market in Boston - and they aren’t selling bc of taxes? They’re on the market!
@willjust_@CompletedStreet Are you stupid? If they build they get revenue. The revenue pays the taxes (and other things…like profit!). That’s why land gets developed- for the revenue! If there’s no revenue opportunity it stays vacant. This is basic stuff buddy.
@willjust_@CompletedStreet It’s irrelevant to a property value or development potential discussion. Can you sell your house but not the land it sits on? No.
