What most suprised me by during this research is how much is possible with long term planning.
In 1965 Singapore started planning to be water independent by 2060! They sticked to the plan and are on a good way.

@giulio_mattioli I think it goes in that direction. Also in Germany 🇩🇪 there are still plenty of regional trains on diesel.

Could imagine that it’s cheaper to give some connections a hybrid coach than electrifying rather remote low frequency destinations
