I'm kind of bringing up the tail end of the "Superman Returns" twentieth anniversary posts, but I'll gladly do my part.
P.S. Did a rewatch last night. The plane rescue is unbeatable.
20 years ago (!!!) I had the privilege of attending the Iowa premiere of Superman Returns. I wrote an article about the movie for my local newspaper. My son (then 8!) and I got to be on the red carpet, where we met Brandon Routh, his parents and sister, & movie producer Gil Adler
@Jeff_Dyer I've just encountered you with your "Superman Returns" post, but thought I'd add that this is my favorite of the original cast movies. Forgot to like; will remedy momentarily.
@Jeff_Dyer@RickLeeJames4 I wouldn't say that I would have killed to be there, because that's not exactly in keeping with the Superman ethos, but I envy you.

P.S. Hey, Superman Always, hope all is well.
I have now descended into perpetual reruns: I saw it at the midnight showing and four more times, once twice in a row, all in 3D.
#BrandonRouthIsSuperman
I hope @BrandonJRouth knows his portrayal has fans.
Is this date on your calendar, @DrPopCultureUSA?
@PaulMcKenna4@AntigoneJournal I recently managed to acquire the proceedings of a conference that I have wanted for years. Pencil underlining throughout. Not anymore! Like you, I'd made a copy of the key articles and had it bound decades ago. You'll find my underlining and marginalia there.
@RadioFreeTom Britain, Aug. 31 (probably), 55 BC
Are you alluding to Julius Caesar, who had once likewise anticipated dire outcomes?
"At Caesar . . . fore id quod accidit suspicābātur" (De bellō Gallicō 4.31).
"But Caesar . . . began to suspect that what did happen would happen."
@JBradshaw01 I've always just figured senior skip day was just a thing in the US. I've learned something new from my Canadian colleagues today. I'm not glad you have to endure it too, but thanks for teaching me something!
@DAMendelsohnNYC@nytimesbooks I read his essential Homer over one winter break back in the 2000s. Even now I struggle to put my reaction into words. It was like meeting an old friend for the first time, a string of "aha" and "oh" moments.
@thintechgodhead Are you in a large city? Try the American display in the basement grocery store of a large department store. I. Hamburg I got Bisquick and grape jelly to make biscuits for my hosts.
@JG41187@hollywoodscifi Do you remember a couple of episodes where Marvin would leap and just hover in the air for a moment? I've always wondered if that was a hint that he could fly.
