Tim Abray

I have largely left this place. You can find me in that other place where the skies are blue and the toxic madness is kept to a dull roar.

Here are links to a few of my "rant threads." These are threads I wrote at various points to get something out of my system, mostly dealing with issues around politics, communication, and democracy. Have at 'em. More added as I dig them up.

Excited that my play DAISY - a political drama about negative advertising, set during the 1964 US presidential election - is getting a production in the San Francisco area. It opens 3 days after Trump's second inauguration. I'm sure it's going to stir up audiences.

@mdiscussing @TheOscarRace Favourite movie of all time. It's a poem on celluloid.

[Sean Devine @DevineSean]

A resident in my ward who is facing their own challenges with housing just wrote to convey their sympathy and support for asylum seekers looking to find a home in Ottawa. I often find that the poorest among us have the most generous souls.

[Canadian Association of Journalists @caj]

🧵We are alarmed at the persistent and escalating patterns of harassment and intimidation directed towards Canadian journalists who dare to report on contentious topics in the public interest.

One recent example occurred this past weekend with journalist @atRachelGilmore. (1/5)

Excellent opinion piece from @Deachman on an important issue that needs to be addressed, not ignored. The status quo just ensures continued failure to rise to the challenge.

@vittorioangelon She’s fantastic.

[Tim Abray @timabray]

This is the disconnected, childish assessment of a deeply immature and dangerously powerful person.

[JOANNE CHIANELLO @JCHIANELLO]

There is a lot of angst and misinformation out there about using Sprung Structures to temporarily asylum seekers in Ottawa. This FAQ from Coun. Marty Carr from earlier this year does an excellent job at explaining the issue. #ottnews https://t.co/1Q4QgX0uPy

“Indigenous journalists, in some ways, are war correspondents,” Rick Harp said. “We are documenting the war against our peoples and our very existence is at stake.”

Fantastic first panel @Carleton_U “Reimagining Political Journalism” conference. A hammer and tongs conversation from some fabulous panelists about “What is political journalism.” Pursuing some truth. Good opening to a weekend of panels.

[Sean Devine @DevineSean]

In my ongoing effort to communicate transparently and frequently here's another brief update on the Newcomer Reception Centres coming to Ottawa, with some preliminary details about an upcoming Public Information Session. https://t.co/PMjPovYPKW

[Tim Abray @timabray]

@IanStumpfSask @andrew_leach Libel is also an offence. So you might want to put up your evidence or apologize. You can’t impugn someone’s reputation publicly without evidence. That’s a quick way to get poor.

[Sean Devine @DevineSean]

It's time to show another side of Ottawa. Along with @refugee613, Mayor @_MarkSutcliffe and several councillors, I'll be using my voice to show how Ottawa is a place that welcomes newcomers. Join me this Sunday at 3pm at Ben Franklin Place Plaza.

[Tim Abray @timabray]

@nejsnave Thank god. I’ve been sucker-punched! Deleted.

[Sean Devine @DevineSean]

And in other news, used car dealers are projecting a need to hire more salespeople.

[Tim Abray @timabray]

@MichealSuddard_ This is pure disinformation. Councillor Devine supported the Brown motion. It’s on the record. Look it up. The rally is organized by Refugee613. Look it up. And you are impersonating someone with your account, bullying them with every post and hiding behind their identity.

[Sean Devine @DevineSean]

In the coming days I'll speak about the 2025 City of Ottawa budget. For now, I want to keep my constituents updated on the newcomer reception centre proposed for Ward 9. This is an important and necessary initiative. https://t.co/KtXFtUTVzO

[Tim Abray @timabray]

@maxfawcett I appreciate your optimism.

[Tim Abray @timabray]

@maxfawcett Sure… if we’re still here.

[Tim Abray @timabray]

It was nice knowing all of you. Well, not all of you. But you know what I mean.
