The three-year-olds, all via the Jockey Club, evidently a high-class race, were walking over the older horses.
Constitution River may soon be challenging Almanzor as Wootton Bassett's best. He's still improving, and nothing to stop him getting 12 f
Does anyone else have examples of outstanding mares breeding good winners with horses they raced against? This is Time Charter narrowly failing to peg back SW over a distance bit short for her (despite Saritamer).
Delighted to see that the Charlie Wood Stakes (named after the Hull-born champion jockey of 1887) is a Class 1 Listed race @Beverley_Races & won by such a good horse as Al Aasy. A few years ago I was pleased to introduce @CarrAuthor Woodβs biographer to the racecourseπππ
We LOVE this horse ππ€
AL AASY is a classy winner of the Charlie Wood Stakes for @Shadwell_EU, @WilliamHaggas & @CierenFallonJr!
We hope to see you next year π«‘
Motivator Dies
Haras du Hoguenet informed Jour de Galop on Saturday morning that stallion Motivator died during the night from Friday to Saturday, most likely following a heart attack. He was 24 and had still covered a small book of mares in 2026.
A Derby hero, Motivator's stud career was disrupted by a series of health setbacks. Nevertheless, on the Flat he sired more than 80 black-type performers (13% of his runners), headed by the outstanding Treve. Over jumps, he proved the sire of a string of top-class performers, including Stormy Ireland, Pentland Hills, Jigme and For Fun.
Unlucky both on the racecourse and at stud, Motivator was known for siring horses that often took time to come to hand and could be difficult, but they invariably possessed talent.
Read his full obituary tonight in Jour de Galop.
