@jameypricephoto@DanielleTrotta Between the hybrid changes this year as well as needing an Apple TV subscription was the final straw for me for F1. Indy cars and IMSA now are top of the list races to watch for me.
@knoxnews I walked through this tunnel many times in the 60's. They sold Boy Scout items that no one else in town sold. They would also hold clearance sales in part of the garage building.
@girdley If you're putting something in the car, go ahead and put it where it will go if you have to brake hard. That saved a number of drive thru meals over the years.
What would change my mind on Beshear in this situation?
A few things he could do:
1) He’s said he’s willing to file a legal challenge on the State law blocking him from appointing vs special election - do it.
Yes, Mitch is alive (although in no state for his seat) so you will not get to make the appointment.
But the statute does not change the State constitution so the legal grounds for getting that struck down are there.
And even if you lose, you show that when Republicans try and abuse our systems of laws and processes, you’re willing to go to the mat to defend it.
2) Put this conversation back in national media.
We know McConnell is in no fit state, and that is unfair to the people of Kentucky.
Can you own a national narrative, and get that message across party lines?
McConnell would be pounding on a drum about this nonstop if it was a Dem.
3) Rally allies in Congress to push for answers:
The next Dem President must be able to manage a wide tent on the hill, and get their support in steering this administration.
Do you have the sway to push that and get messaging to align?
And bonus points, can you peel off even one cross-aisle voice to do the same, even an outspoken one like Bacon?
4) Go there.
Go to the hospital in DC.
Request to see McConnell.
Put on a press conference outside.
If he denies you a meeting, that’s your topic.
If he doesn’t, then your topic is why he is still in hospital, on the tax payers dime 5 weeks later, and why he is hiding answers from the people of Kentucky.
**Why does any of this matter?**
Will Beshear get to actually appoint a Senator? No.
Is McConnell dead? No.
Is McConnell hiding his health state unchecked, because he knows he can hide behind process and games and no Dem will call him out? Yes.
The current administration, has undermined our laws, gone after election security, and has those who worked with foreign governments to undermine our election as determined by our own DoJ.
The heal the nation, soft footed approach did nothing to stop that.
We don’t need a President appointing another Merrick Garland.
We need an administration willing to show they won’t just talk about action, but that will go toe to toe at each turn, to say it’s enough of these games that undercut our democracy.
It needs to be a message that we will never allow this again, and that perpetrators will pay the price.
I don’t expect actual results on the McConnell matter.
I do expect that Presidential hopefuls, to show me they have that scrap in them, that they can control a narrative, and they have reach on the hill.
It’s a tall order - but it’s what’s needed.
And if Beshear can grab this moment by the reigns and do that, he could win me back over.
But until then I think the approach has been too soft handed.
@RacecastWx@NashvilleSuperS@IndyCar I went to an Indycar race there in the afternoon back in the late 90's and it was brutally hot. We spent a lot of time in the cooling tents.
@midwestAUdude@MusicCityGP I was at an Indy car race there in Nashville in the late 90's in July. That's one of the hottest days I've ever had going to races. We spent quite a bit of time in the cooling tent. July races should be Saturday night.
