If these were the 2 options on the table, would you rather a Christmas 2026 special with no Billie Piper at all, or the episode being delayed until Billie is available to film?
@aaminahinfilm As a new Star Wars fan since 2020, I remember doing the same poll and being unsure too. But hereβs the thing: the majority of fans watched in the order of release. So did I, and it elevated my experience. Watch in chronological on your rewatch to see what else you notice!
@Andrew476009 I agree! Mainly I donβt want 2026 to be the first year with no Doctor Who since 2005 - but if 2027 is that anyway, then I donβt see the point in rushing a special to keep the streak going! Itβs a tough one.
Not many votes so far but the split is exactly what I expected!
The show really is in a tough spot, I think itβs going to be impossible to satisfy everyone.

Maybe we donβt know what happens next. Maybe the Christmas special is uncertain, maybe the future feels unclear. But Doctor Who isnβt just a TV show. Itβs the people, the stories, the conventions, the audios, the comics, the friendships.
No matter what, we carry it with us.ππ

I guess my point is, given the volatile position the show is in right now - I'd rather the episode is cancelled or delayed, rather than one being pushed out. It's not even to do with the quality, it just needs to be exactly the right KIND of episode to begin to rebuild the show.
Hmmmmm.
I can see this being true, but also think it's completely possible for an episode to be ready in time for Christmas if filming started in August/September.
I guess the question is - would it be the right kind of episode to wrap up an era, with less production time?
The Sun are reporting that the #DoctorWho Christmas special might be "scrapped" or pushed back to Easter 2027.
TV Zone has approached the BBC for comment.
The most impressive part of The Mandalorian & Grogu box office is that Disney got people back into cinemas for a Star Wars film built from a streaming series. That was NOT guaranteed. If audience scores hold, this could have serious success through the summer.

@BenoitBlancFan Why screenshot & not repost? π€
I say that not for credit, but because your screenshot loses the reasoning I offer in the following tweets.
Doctor Who should pay very close attention to what The Mandalorian & Grogu is doing, because I honestly think it understands the modern audience better than a lot of legacy franchises do right now.
Here's why...

You canβt delight everyone any more, but you can satisfy most people. Thatβs the lane Doctor Who needs right now: give existing fans something they like, while offering a safe, accessible jumping-on point for a new generation. Respect the lore, donβt depend on it.
Thatβs why The Mandalorian and Grogu works. It's not trying to win people over with lore, continuity or huge βeventβ storytelling.
It's simple, emotional, funny and easy to jump into. Some fans understandably will call that βsafeβ. But thatβs how you build a new generation.
