There’s a lot to celebrate in the #BuildBackBetter framework, but paid leave being completely left out- while we’re still living in a pandemic - is just tragic. While Oregonians will still have leave, the rest of the country is being left behind. It’s #TimeToCare, Congress.
A framework for the #BuildBackBetterAct came out today! Here’s our breakdown on the policies included in the plan but let’s keep in mind that this is just a framework — more is needed to actually get this passed! 🧵
We’ve gone from a plan with 12 weeks of paid leave, to four weeks, and now to fighting for it to be included at all in the #BuildBackBetterAct. This is embarrassing. Almost every other country has figured this out - we should too! Families need #paidleaveforall now.
No one should have to choose between taking time to heal or care for a family member and earning a living. The #BuildBackBetter Act must ensure America’s workers and families have affordable, accessible, and adequate #TimeToCare
Having adequate #TimeToCare is an issue that most affects BIPOC communities. After #PaidLeave was instituted in California, the number of Black mothers who took maternity leave jumped by 10%. #TimeToCare makes a real difference.
Most workers need #TimeToCare for aunts, themselves, their parents, children, and other loved ones. We must stop the misconception that mothers are the sole beneficiaries. We need #PaidLeaveForAll now!

America was built from the contributions of people from across the world, yet wage disparities affect people of color the most. If we want to truly #BuildBackBetter, we must provide Latinx and other BIPOC communities the equal access to #PaidLeave!
As we celebrate working families across the nation this Labor Day, we must continue to fight for worker rights such as #PaidLeave, #PaidSickDays, and #TimetoCare for all Americans. #orpol
Having time to welcome a new child or care for a seriously ill family member should not be a luxury reserved for the few. It’s past time for the United States to have #PaidLeave for all!

A recent study of 8,500 service-sector workers employed in grocery, delivery, food service and retail at 125 of the largest firms in the country demonstrates the sheer scale of our caregiving crisis.
Let's break it down. #orpol#TimeToCare

"Why are workers taking less leave than they need in the midst of a global pandemic? The simplest answer is that they just can't afford the time off, even when their own health or that of their families demands it."
