The most basic question here seems to be:

Who, exactly, do these people answer to?

If the European Parliament rejects mass scanning of citizens’ private messages, and the institutional response is to search for a procedure that makes rejection harder than approval, then the issue is no longer only ChatControl.

It is democratic legitimacy.

If the President of Parliament represents Parliament, then her first duty is to defend its expressed will, not help other institutions outmaneuver it.

On Thursday, the European Parliament votes on Chat Control 1 (the voluntary scanning, not the mandatory scanning, called Chat Control 2). Again.

The Parliament has already voted against Chat Control 1. Two times. But the Council of Ministers and the Parliament President refuse to accept it.

Now, the Council has demanded an urgent procedure. This is a procedure that is meant to be used for new legislative proposals, not proposals that the Parliament has already rejected. An urgent procedure requires an absolute majority to be rejected (361 out of the Parliament's 720 members). This will be difficult to reach, since those who abstain from voting are counted as a yes-vote in an urgent procedure. By scheduling the vote during the summer, they are making it even harder to reach those 361 no-votes. This is downright dirty tactic by the Council and the President of the European Parliament.

If Chat Control passes: your messages, pictures, videos will all be scanned because the law will require it - this removes privacy and welcomes mass surveillance in the EU.

What's happening?

If Chat Control is passed, it will force client-side scanning - so companies will have to scan the contents of private communications, including encrypted messages and emails, before they are sent.

In March, it was voted against, but it's back and it was pushed through via urgent procedure. This changes the rules of the vote (of course to be in favour of chat control). Shockingly, blocking it now requires absolute  majority 361 out of the Parliament's 720 members, to be rejected.

This is hard to reach because:

‼️ People who do not vote are AUTOMATICALLY VOTED AS YES-VOTE in this procedure.

‼️ This was tactfully done: it's the summer break, this makes it even harder to reach 361 no-votes.

What @EPPGroup and @EP_President are doing to push Chat Control is an embarrassment to democracy and to EU values.

For three years, experts have explained why client-side scanning fails to protect children while breaking encryption for everyone. Citizens rejected it. It is being forced through anyway, against every democratic principle.

History will remember this.

@Perksey If you want something smaller, something like the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO or Fractal Design Node 804 would be great choices.

Usually, if you go much smaller than micro ATX you'll lose the ability to add GPUs (granted both those are still pretty big).
