This morning, I made a presentation in support of the establishment of the state police along other major stakeholders including state governors, members of the National Assembly and top security experts.
It was an opportunity for me to raise more awareness for the support of state police at the event organized in Abuja by the management of Arise News Channel, titled: "Building A National Consensus for State Police and National Security".
As the lead discussant, my presentation availed other participants and majority of Nigerians about ongoing legislative efforts of the 10th National Assembly in collaboration with the Executive to give Nigerians a policing system devoid of political control and abuse.
I also posited that the state police, just like the local government autonomy is central to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in its vision of bringing governance closer to the people and give them more sense of participation and belongingness in our democracy.
Thank you Arise News Channel for this platform.
Today, I returned to the traditional institution of my hometown Iyin Ekiti, under the rulership of His Royal Majesty Oba Adeola Adeniyi Ajakaiye,Oyinyosaiye Uyin III, to express my profound gratitude to Iyin Ekiti descendants home and abroad for their homebase support in giving me another opportunity to represent the people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District for another term.
Across all the 55 political wards in Ado Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Efon Alaye, Ekiti West and Ijero Ekiti Local Government Areas; where I was returned unopposed at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate Primary Election by members of our great party today; I want to say thank you and thank you again.
While giving all glory of God, this appreciation will be incomplete without a mention of the support from our leader and Governor of Ekiti State, H.E Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and his wife Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, the APC State Working Committee members, ably led by Barrister Sola Elesin and other key political stakeholders across my Senatorial District and beyond.
I thank my dear wife, Pham. Oluyemisi Bamidele, members of my immediate and political families for staying with me through this journey of service to humanity. Thank you all as we look forward to greater moments in the 2027 General Elections. #VoteBAO #VoteAPC #Asiwaju2027.
The Senate on Tuesday resumed sitting after the suspension of its plenary two weeks ago, aimed at paving the way for thorough scrutiny of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by various committees of the Senate and House of Representatives.
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, welcomed our colleagues back and reaffirmed that the 2026 national budget is one of the major matters currently before the Senate, describing it further as a document that reflects the country's priorities and deliberate fiscal intentions.
He thanked the various committees of the Senate for carrying out diligent screening of the budget and ensure it reflects the overall aspirations of all Nigerians, including students, artisians, traders and members of the organized labour.
Meanwhile, a resolution of the Senate today suspended plenary till Wednesday in honour of our brother and highly respected colleague, Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented the good people of South-East Senatorial District of Rivers State until his death on February 19th, 2026.
In my lead debate, I described as a deep shock and profound sadness, the passing of Senator Mpigi known for his humility, accessibility and unwavering dedication to the welfare of his constituents. I therefore called for a minute silence to honour his memories in line with our long-standing parliamentary tradition. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
On Monday, I attended the inauguration ceremony of the campaign council for the re-election of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, which held at the state secretariat of our party in Ado Ekiti.
Along with 56 others, I was inaugurated as the chairman of the council by the leadership of our great party both at the state and national levels.
In my remarks, I thanked the entire APC family for the honour bestowed on me to drive this governorship campaign project
.
On behalf of other council members, I assured that we will do our best to make the June 20 election a referendum and reaffirm Governor Oyebanji's leadership qualities for continuous benefits of over 3.8 million people in Ekiti State.
While charging the people to come out and vote for APC in the coming elections, I further disclosed that there is a target to mobilize and deliver at least 10 million votes for the 2027 re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, in the South-west alone.
Also at the event were: Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Monisade Afuye; Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru; Chairman, Board of Nigeria Port Authority, Senator Dayo Adeyeye; former Senator of Ekiti Central, Senator Bode and all serving members of the National Assembly, among others.
