X ROLLS OUT ENCRYPTED CHAT WITH FULL FILE-SHARING
X has launched a new encrypted Chat feature that lets users send documents, photos, videos, GIFs, and other files securely.
Users now have an upgraded direct messaging system, featuring end-to-end encryption for private chats. It supports text, media, files, reactions, and more, with added privacy tools like disappearing messages, but requires setup for encryption.
One-on-one chats are available as well, just tap the phone/video icon to start (no phone number needed). In a chat, users can also select an image or message and tap ‘Ask Grok' to analyze or edit it (temporarily decrypts for Grok only), or add encrypted reactions to messages.
The update also adds a ‘+’ button inside conversations, giving users a simple way to share media under end-to-end encryption.
The rollout marks one of X’s biggest moves yet toward transforming the platform into a full messaging hub.
