The North East League will start 31 January, bringing Saturday league chess to Northumberland & Durham. My column for the Newcastle @ChronicleLive@ecfchess
Normally I write my weekly column in the @ChronicleLive to promote the local chess scene in the North East. Today it seemed important that the column was about Daniel Naroditsky and cyber-bullying in chess. @ecfchess

@tmsproducer Is @benstokes38 just conserving his energy for his next Five-fer in India’s 2nd innings? Was it ‘inspired’ by Rishabh Pant’s retired hurt? BazBall just got crafty… @bbctms
🎉 Huge congrats to Aarti Lohia on her FIDE Certificate of Appreciation for the #YearOfSocialChess! Through the SP Lohia Foundation, she’s championed chess in education, prisons & public life — making a real impact across UK chess. ♟️👏 #FIDE#ChessForAll#SocialImpact
My column today for the Newcastle @ChronicleLive on the Northumberland Championships. Andy Burnett and I go into a 2-game playoff for the prestigious Zollner Trophy, first awarded by Danish consul Louis Zollner in 1930. @ecfchess
Congratulations to these players who achieved norms in the 4NCL: Zoe Varney (Blackthorne) WIM 2nd norm; Richard Pert (Cheddleton Savills Catering) GM 2nd norm; Tom O'Gorman (The Sharks 1) GM 1st norm; Svyatoslav Bazakutsa (Wood Green Youth) GM (2nd norm) Game is R. Pert v S Chow
Hugely entertaining end to the @4ncl season - even after two days from @GSharks4NCL which will become the stuff of legend (taking points from both the leaders, but more from Wood Green) had already clinched the title for Manx Liberty - many congratulations! I'm also buoyed.. 1/2
... by 3 superb wins for my @WhiteRoseChess colleagues. Great team effort, but special mention for fast improving Thomas Carroll's 3/3, Daniel Alsina Leal who missed the same by a whisker on Board 1 and awesome power chess from @andy_rekt_chess. Almost as if I wasn't missed 😉
Congrats to Maidenhead Chess Club's Yuri Krylov on his appointment as @ecfchess Home Chess Development Director! It's exciting to see dedicated new people coming forward to boost grassroots chess https://t.co/MupgobPrTP
I returned to competitive chess this year with the very strong @KingstonChess team that has already won five trophies this year including the Surrey and Thames Valley league titles and now also the Alexander cup.
Research on Freestyle Chess/Chess960 shows that most players rely on ‘memory moves’ from standard chess at first, but later start thinking outside the box. @chess_freestyle@ecfchess https://t.co/kY95T3swDx
