@hecubian_devil When Marx was writing, housing markets were very, very different from today. Regulated S&Ls used to make 6 percent interest loans to build housing. Today, it's all speculative capital that requires returns so high you can't finance anything except high-end
@hecubian_devil I'm not against density, but "removing constraints" on the private market just isn't going to work to make housing more affordable. Maybe 50 years ago, but not in 2025 capitalism. https://t.co/LCQ34hR2CN
@hecubian_devil Cassie, I wish you were right, and more supply would make housing affordable. The NBER paper doesn't say supply and demand are irrelevant; it says that wealth and economic inequality are MORE inportant. The Twitter tax break did more for the housing crisis than Nimbys
@mattdorsey@48hills I did defend what I wrote. You didn't read what I wrote in context. Question: Should the SFPD now raid all the bars in the Marina on Sat night and arrest everyone with cocaine? That's "cessation" of drug use.
While the rich are enjoying massive gains, public transit and education and affordable housing are fighting over crumbs. We don't have to put up with this https://t.co/vzlRylJaAp
Mayor Breed just admitted that the sf housing element will fail to produce enough affordable housing on time @DeanPreston@LondonBreed @myrnamelgar https://t.co/tYwsaLPNt5
