@TodorovNikolaj @kangminlee I don’t care about cars, I care about metrics. Unemployment rate, GDP, etc. Trade balance is one of them. Because Rwand is landlocked and don’t have rich neighbors it economic output is significantly less that what it could potentially be

@DeltaLLMike @kangminlee My argument is not that just financial aid helped Japan, Singapore etc. Investment also involved trading, as it provides vast market and financial opportunities for businesses to get involved in the country. Domestic policies are important, but so is trading partners

@TodorovNikolaj @kangminlee Are you saying that it doesn’t matter if you trade with rich country or with poor country. If you have strong relationship with rich country on average you gonna do better economically. Africa receiving aid is not the same as having direct partnership with US

@g1327462 @kangminlee Actually very big deal, as it gave Japan access to US technology and on top of that it allowed Japan to have trading relationship to US, which allowed Japan’s industry grow. Without US input Japan’s wouldn’t be half as successful as it is now

@TodorovNikolaj @kangminlee That cause US invested a lot of money after Vietnam war. Like the amount of investment and trade between US Vietnam went from hundreds million to billions. Also half of Balkan countries are part of EU and received aid to them. No shit Serbia is great receiving aid

Jamaica was largely ostracized by USA during Cold War era. So yeah one country was heavily invested by world’s first economy and other was largely banned

@Lukalade @kangminlee Not really, USSR and China were in Cold War with US right after war was over, which means they were largely ostracized from US market and technology. Same goes for other countries like Korea which was split and most of Southeast Asia, were victims of war in communism
