One of the favourite arguments Muslims make is that terrorism comes from ignorance of Islam. But history keeps telling a different story.

Osama bin Laden did not found al-Qaeda because he ignored Islamic scriptures. Mohammed Yusuf did not found Boko Haram because he was unfamiliar with the Quran. Both men studied Islam and believed they were acting upon what they learned.

Groups like al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, and Islamic State do not recruit people by telling them to abandon Islamic texts. They recruit by quoting those texts and presenting what they claim is the authentic interpretation.

If Muslims want us to accept the claim that they became extremists due to ignorance of the text, then we can conclude that the Quran is a book of ignorance.
