In the summer of 1971, the Rolling Stones fled England to escape a 93% “super-tax” and financial ruin. They settled into Villa Nellcôte, a weathered mansion on the French Riviera, with peeling shutters and a damp mist.

The basement became a makeshift studio: hot, cluttered, and chaotic. Keith Richards led the sessions at odd hours, blending blues, gospel, country, and rock. Photographer Dominique Tarlé documented the atmosphere and Gram Parsons stopped by and contributed his country soul, all wrapped up in the same excess.

From that summer came Exile on Main St., a disheveled and radiant album that turned the chaos of Nellcôte into one of rock’s greatest masterpieces.

Glen Hansard has died after being involved in a motorcycle crash in Dublin.

Glen and Marketa Irglova performed "Into The Mystic" for us on the streets of Chicago while promoting the movie "Once" in 2008. I thought it would be fitting to share this today to remember his incredible talent and the passion he brought to every performance, big or small.

Glen Hansard was just 56 years old. RIP.
