@MayorKirkHNL I saw this in the Monday NY Times, “Seville is cracking down on vacation rentals, after a court ruling cleared the mayor’s office to conduct a review and cut off the water supply to illegal vacation rentals.” Seems a reasonable response!
Procrastination, techno optimism, finance, and the American character — a recipe for addressing global warming? Thanks to @_redcanaryco, as ever!

@elonmusk@tunguz Wow, I lived closer to the heart of the 6th St. corridor from 1992–2015, on one of its worst blocks. If all your public bravado culminates in this sort of whining I want to see that cage fight with Zuck even more. A gang at Twit HQ? Jeez.
@PupulePaul@KSKAthletics@HawaiiAthletics Found your drainage ditch walks. I skated many, including Hahaione and was there the night of this: https://t.co/noZxD7HJla
We called it “Pipeline Bowls” and it made the cover of Thrasher Mag. prior to flood. Research leads to great tangents! Aloha!!
@sbg1 As dangerous as Trump is, he does not exist in a vacuum. There are enuff willing to vote for him that his candidacy is a threat. This is a symptom of a nation in real distress, without Trump. This, I believe, is the root story here. He’s the same rot as in 1980.
@CWPC_Wildfire It was a great reporting trip, one of my favorites. Thanks to all in Paradise for welcoming me to report your story. It’s an incredibly important on. Aloha!
But I guess I didn’t do my diligence here: https://t.co/VuV5wDLmXP
Sorry @prx, this is as important as the Paradise story above, a must-listen just as that’s a must-read.
So I have a website again, with a blog (no promises there). https://t.co/GqBKOFhGVV Check it out!
And Happy New Year—seems like it could be a long one.

@_redcanaryco Thanks so much for believing in this piece, I think it may be the most significant essay I have written to date. I have so much aloha for you folks and the help you gave to make this happen! Our language must change, it’s as simple as that.
@sejorg Thanks as always @sejorg! This is a tough read but I believe it to be the most potentially significant piece I’ve completed to date. Without good language about what we face we will not confront our heating climate with the understanding it demands of us.
"Traveling against the tide of a mass exodus is a surreal experience and not one I can recommend, even as I know I will inevitably do so again, as I have done before. Our expansive societal failure guarantees this cycle repeats.
A new archetype of experience — the previously improbable disaster — was taking shape in the smoldering ruins. The word I see and hear constantly, and which comes merely close to a satisfactory description of my state in the face of all this is grief. Grief. Grief. Grief.
Voiced as a mantra, the word comes closer to accepting the weight placed on it, but it still fails its burden. No single word can encapsulate the anguish, heartbreak, pain and fury that follows fires like these."

Hello void!
Our language is failing us in the global warming era, Pyrocene, whatever you want to call it.
Red Canary Magazine got behind me for a lot of words on this, so it can’t be just me that feels this way... share this if you can:

@CALFIRE_ButteCo A pleasure to watch this operation, way to get it out on the socials Rick! You’re better at this than I am! Thanks to all of you who talked to me and allowed me to cover this fuels management happen today.
See, it says at the top of my X-twit thingy, "Bad at Twitter." This is here late; it is still pertinent. I am 100% positive of that even as I haven't read it since I filed my edits. Still too close. I'll be back in Paradise in November...we're doing great. https://t.co/bgIm6DH6SK
@nai808@voxdotcom@musubman@UMUHawaii@keliiheen Thanks so much! They really are good folks at Chef Hui. So sorry to be so slow to check this, it’s been a blur since that piece ran. And I’m super terrible at socials; I do (somewhat) better at Instagram, same handle. More on the way from my POV, tune in?
