With the 10 year DACA anniversary today, and with everything DACA recipients and full undocus gotta go through, I think y'all should send some $$ to DACA and undocu ppl today
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut There can be nuance and struggle without calling it poverty. If I made like $500k and had six dependents obviously I'm gonna struggle more than if it was just for me, but I'm not gonna call it poverty. I think the op was pretty clear on who it considers poverty larping.
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut Bcuz their children r still benefiting from $$ unless they cut them off. I find it disingenuous but u can disagree. I hate it when ppl r like it's not my money it's my parents, when they still benefit from it, but 2 each their own. I just wish everyone would b more transparent
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut I'm only talking in terms of family money/generational wealth, savings ect. gov requires ppl to not make over a certain amount and that it can b harder to live on or off assistance depending on who u ask.
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut I'm only talking about having financially stable family that is helping an adult child because they have the privilege to. If ur on public assistance because u and ur family r poor, or u make like a couple bucks above the guidelines than yeah ur poor.
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut I just think if someone says they're poor but don't disclose that they have financially stable parents that can help or are helping them, they're being disingenuous. I don't think it's an accurate label. That's all and that's what I call poverty larping.
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut Right but they still came from that background. Like if Im poor but if I knew my parents were middle class and could help me I wouldn't call myself poor, Id call it a middle class struggle unless they cut me off and disowned me or something then I'd call myself poor.
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut I'm saying they shouldn't say they're in the same situation as some1 who is.not that their situation is perfect or not struggling. I find it tone deaf. Like I'm struggling but I wouldn't say to a homeless person that I'm struggling as much as them when I have a roof over my head.
@torivega_ville@oatmilkmotel And u can't vent to them because they think they have it the same or worse because of something like having a higher car payment and the person they could be talking to doesn't even have that and takes the bus. People outta know their audience.
@torivega_ville@oatmilkmotel This happens so much in SoCal I hate it. if u feel ur struggling, valid. but struggling doesn't equal poor. Like if I used to be rich and was now middle class, I could say I'm struggling but I wouldn't say I'm poor, as that'd b an insult to actual poor people.
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut Or to move back home and pay rent to them because I'd be costing them money and they wouldn't be able to house me for free. So while any type of struggling sucks it's not the same
@pollypockit@Texastargirl@oatmilkmotel@dumbcommieslut I was working the same job but my parents couldn't help me + I had to keep telling them tht I couldn't help them pay bills bcuz I had my own rent & bills. If I was ever going to b evicted, they would just tell me 2 move somewhere else
@DPak_Chupacabra@oatmilkmotel this is why I appreciate those tiktoks that say I'm only working this min wage job to pay for nails or cute clothes, my coworker has to live on this income while raising 6 kids kinda thing. just because u make min wage doesn't mean ur poor unless ur actually living off of it
@hcmthot I'm saying I agree with op and I slightly disagree with u. Like sure if someone has a bill paid or two by someone else they aren't super well off financially but I disagree that they should be considered poor
We need more coming-of-age stories except the main character is +25, employed and hates their job, single, with less than one friend, and generally bad at human relationships
