But right now, creating a side room while the main voting body continues to favour white, Western acts feels like a consolation prize. It is a token gesture designed to keep global audiences tuning into the broadcast while secretly maintaining the status quo.

Until those major categories offer an unbiased, accurate representation of music's true global breadth, creating sub-categories will remain what it has always been: exclusion disguised as diversity.
