This isn’t even about Lamine Yamal being a Barcelona player. I genuinely believe he is the rightful winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Yes, he didn’t win the Champions League, but he made up for that by winning the World Cup. The Ballon d’Or is about individual performance and team achievements, and Lamine ticks both boxes.

So when you say “I’m being honest” or “I’m unbiased” before saying he doesn’t deserve it, it honestly makes the argument sound weaker. Lamine had a Ballon d’Or level season, there’s no question about that.

Dembélé won it last season largely because he had the Champions League. This time, Lamine has the biggest trophy in football. If we’re judging the full season, he has every right to be the favourite.
