EARNINGS TODAY
Reporting before the open: none of note in the United States. After the close: none of note. U.S. markets are closed today.
The calendar resumes Monday: Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB) before the open, and Steel Dynamics (STLD) and W. R. Berkley (WRB) after the close. The heavier week follows — Netflix (NFLX) on Tuesday, and Tesla (TSLA) and IBM (IBM) on Wednesday.
THE OVERNIGHT READ
Friday repriced the artificial intelligence trade on the cost of its financing. The Nasdaq Composite fell 2.14% to 26,140.03, the S&P 500 fell 1.09% to 7,659.44, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.34% to 52,002.41. For the week, the Nasdaq fell about 4.5% — its largest weekly decline since June — while the Dow still rose about 0.7%, held by banks and names outside technology.
The pressure was specific, not general. Concern centred on the debt funding the data-centre buildout, with CoreWeave as the focal name, as oil rose above $100 and the 10-year Treasury held near 5.10%. Speaking in Bangkok, the Federal Reserve chair offered no guidance on rates, leaving hot September inflation data — consumer prices, producer prices, and a 1.1% rise in import prices — as the standing fact.
What it means for the patient: the market is no longer asking whether demand for computing exists. It is asking what that demand costs to finance, and whether earnings next week answer in revenue. That is a higher standard, and a healthier one.
LEVELS
There is no futures session to read on a Saturday. The references for Monday are Friday's closes.
S&P 500: 7,659.44. The 7,600 round number is the first level below; Thursday's close at 7,744.06 is the first level above, and the week's early high near 7,772 stands above that.
Nasdaq Composite: 26,140.03, with 26,000 as the round reference below. The Nasdaq 100 closed near 29,203, down about 2.5% on the day.
Dow Jones Industrial Average: 52,002.41, essentially on the 52,000 round number. Russell 2000: 2,721.37, down 1.66%.
The VIX closed at 19.99, up about 21% on the day. WTI crude closed near $101.84, gold near $4,186, and the 10-year Treasury yield near 5.10%.
MOST ACTIVE
With no premarket session today, the last active tape is Friday's — and it was concentrated in the repricing.
CoreWeave (CRWV) fell about 12% as concern over the cost and scale of its borrowing intensified. Twilio (TWLO) fell 10.6%, the largest decline in the S&P 500, after a downgrade. Strategy (MSTR) fell 9.6% on index-rule changes that may exclude it from global benchmarks.
Semiconductors fell for an eighth consecutive session: KLA (KLAC), Lam Research (LRCX), and Applied Materials (AMAT) each fell near 5%, and Oracle (ORCL) fell about 5%. Palo Alto Networks (PANW) and CrowdStrike (CRWD) each fell more than 7%. Tesla (TSLA) fell 2.1%, and Netflix (NFLX) fell 2.8% ahead of its report on Tuesday.
The firm names were the quiet ones: Travelers (TRV) rose 1.5% on a result above expectations, and Alcoa (AA) rose 2.6% on its own result. In a week of repricing, earnings that arrived were still rewarded.
ANALYST MOVES
Raised: JPMorgan raised its view on BlackRock (BLK), maintaining an Overweight stance after a quarter defined by record assets and inflows.
Cut: Citigroup trimmed JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and held a Neutral stance, reading limited near-term upside after earnings. Morgan Stanley trimmed Mobileye (MBLY), Equal Weight, and JPMorgan trimmed Westlake (WLK), Neutral — both on a more cautious view of near-term demand.
Downgraded: Twilio (TWLO) was cut to Reduce, on the view that enthusiasm for AI voice economics may exceed what reaches the company. FMC (FMC) was cut to Hold after its guidance reduction narrowed visibility. Melco Resorts (MLCO) was cut to Hold, on softer Macau gaming revenue and estimates read as too high.
Held with lower expectations: targets were trimmed across the AI data-centre group — TeraWulf (WULF), Hut 8 (HUT), and Core Scientific (CORZ) among them — while Overweight stances were maintained. The distinction matters: the work is not being abandoned; its cost is being recalculated.
THROUGH MY LENS
Managing two positions, and initiating nothing. The SNDK $1410 call reached expiry on Friday and is closed by expiry; the book now carries the two Nvidia positions alone — the $265 call expiring November 20, and the $270 call expiring December 18, 2026. No new setups are planned for Monday.
A quiet desk this morning, by design. After a week in which the financing question replaced the demand question, the work is to watch Monday's bank and steel reports, and Tuesday's Netflix result, before forming any new view.

What the record teaches: a thesis you can timestamp. A size decided in calm. An exit rule you keep. The return is the byproduct. The process is the product.
Nasdaq-100 off 4.8% this week.
Myth: a falling index means collapse. Reality: tech is ~70% of it, and the Dow is gaining. Concentration, not collapse.
