My neighbor's kid just quit the high school swim team after three years of being the slowest in every event. Kid was devastated. Thought he just didn't have it.

His dad, who swam competitively back in the day, couldn't figure it out. The kid had decent form, He trained hard. But his times were consistently 15-20% slower than kids with half his work ethic.

Out of frustration, the dad took him to a sports medicine clinic to get evaluated. Maybe asthma, Maybe something structural.

Doctor runs him through some tests. Watches him swim, Pulls the dad aside after and says: "Your son's goggles are filled with water, He's basically swimming blind and has been compensating by lifting his head every third stroke to see where he's going. It's adding massive drag."

Turns out the goggles were cheap ones from a big-box store. Seal was shot, Had been for over a year. Kid just thought that's how goggles worked, that everyone swam with water sloshing around their eyes.

They bought him a proper pair. First practice back, he dropped 18 seconds off his freestyle time.

Eighteen seconds, Because of a $12 piece of equipment nobody thought to replace.

Coach moved him up two lanes within a month.

The lesson stuck with me, How many people are out there right now grinding themselves into the dirt, convinced they're just not good enough, when really they're just working with broken tools and nobody's bothered to check?

This means that Alibaba was using Claude to train its own AI model.

Claude trained its model on private data (Reddit, stackoverflow, NY Times) without paying but complains when Alibaba uses Claude to do the same thing, while paying.

I’m sure it’s against Claude’s terms of service but it seems hypocritical when Claude uses our intelligence for free but complains about others using its intelligence and pays.

There is a kind of poverty that is materially poor but rich in a lot of practical ways.

There are towns in rural Italy, where an old couple lives together in a stone house in the mountains. She has a flower garden, and he sits on the balcony to smoke and read in the morning.

That couple is poor by American standards. They shop at the local markets, eat eggs from their neighbour's chickens. Healthcare is covered by the state. Their church is not fancy. Their clothes are bought from the town market. 10 euro sandals.

But they own their house and did not have to spend 40 years being exploited by a bank paying for it several times with interest. They just bought it outright. They are loved by their neighbours. They can walk around their towns safely because its not packed full of 60IQ savages (for now).

The food they buy is not poisoned. The work the did when they were younger: teachers, nurses, engineers, was just real and normal work. They didn't feel the need to come up with elaborate schemes to become millionaires. Their grandchildren visit them every weekend.

This, too, is wealth.

The goal is not to make everyone Elon Musk. The goal is to make a system where this kind of nonna nonno wealth is achievable for more people.

Know when to keep quiet.
I did shege for someone today because he is Ungrateful and doesn't know when to keep quiet. I carry you everyday because we go same route and work in the same place but you have mind to say buying a car is a bad investment. You kept saying it till I came and heard it. You were defending it l just smiled and left. People were even telling him that he is saying it near who picks him up and takes him back home daily, he said and so. I just smile and went about my day.

We closed from work, I went home alone yesterday, he called me severally i didn't pick, today I went to work alone, he came late, he got queried 🤣🤣. He came and started ranting to me, me wey no send you. Then heavy rain started today, I entered my wasted investment and drove home, the fool called over 10 times, I no pick.

Hence forth let him spend money on uber or take bus to work. This raining season is for him to learn decorum.

Am I doing too much or he genuinely deserves it🫣🫣. Because the kind of suffer he will see this period due to the location of my office he will loose weight jumping bus or go broke doing uber 😩😩😩
