January sucks. But I’ve just received reviews for my book and couldn’t be happier! Doesn’t mean that there’s no work to be done, but I’ll worry about that tomorrow and for now savour the feeling that, after years of hard work, the process is hopefully approaching a happy ending.
I wrote this essay last week & then updated it repeatedly as events unfolded. It's a call not to let talk of geopolitics & HTS overshadow the human significance of Assad’s overthrow as a victory made by Syrians' own perseverance.

The ordeal of Syrian mother and families in general, having to look through endless lists and photos and IDs and literal decomposed corpses to find their disappeared loved ones is one of the cruelest things about post-Assad phase.
A student of mine said in her assignment that she “loved reading” a chapter of my book. The book’s under review and I don’t expect reviewers to be this enthusiastic but khalas, my mission is accomplished ♥️
As Syria transitions, all the warnings add little: They are well-known, to the concerned above all. Let us give Syrians time and trust. They need and deserve as much.
And let us discuss the reasons to hope. Synaps, whose team worked across Syria over the years, can name a few 🧵
V centru Prahy aktuálně pátráme po muži, který přišel do budovy Filosofické fakulty UK na náměstí Jana Palacha, choval se nestandardně a mluvil o střelbě. Na místě jsou desítky policistů a hledají ho. #policiepha
