Ending semester 1, starting semester 2, and snow days has us so behind on posting!
We present, the YOUNG MASTERS exhibit at the Hayner Center, on display through April 3. Please check out these amazing pieces of art created by our talented, creative, and hardworking students!
If you walked into the art rooms right now, you’d see our students on 3 different steps. We have some building, others are on paper mache’, and some are tissue paper and mod podging! We also have an amazing collection of squirrels, cats, fish, roses, and falling leaves! We love it!
Our current project is inspired by the contemporary installation artist Sandy Skoglund. We are creating 5 installations in TJHS based off of her works containing cats, fish, squirrels, leaves, and roses. First step: sketching and taking notes on sculpture construction.
I know I might be bias…but these weaving tapestries are amazing! They are made by 12-14 year olds! These weavings have exceeded my expectations and I am so proud!!!! #weave#weft#warp#fiberarts
Weavings are taking shape around the art room! We love the independence our artists are showing while working on their weaving tapestries! #weave#weft#warp#loom
After cutting their stencils, our students then take acrylic black paint and foam brushes to lightly apply paint over their stencil to colored sticker paper. These designs can then be cut and “slapped” onto surfaces owned by the students. #streetart#banksy
Inspired by Street Art, students are creating their own “slap” stencil designs using x-acto knives and tag board. They have to design a street art name and signature image. It’s hard to imagine how to “stencil-fy” images, but our students are doing great! #slapart#streetart
For this printmaking project, students print their stamp 6 times. They can then choose ANY art materials and techniques to color over their stamped print. We are BEYOND thrilled with these results. Oh, by the way, these stamps are ONLY 2” x 3”!!! #talentedkids#printmaking
We are sooooooooo excited about this Linoleum Printmaking mini-project!!! These students took to carving like fish in water! Students could choose anything that they wanted to carve these stamps! #linoleum#miniproject
We did something new this year! An “art journal workshop”. We exposed students to a variety of techniques of: acrylic, watercolor, drawing, adhesives, coloring, collage, and mixed media. Our goal is to get artists used to using many different materials to confidently create art.
We love seeing students working on their art journal entries! Over the course of a quarter, artists will create 6 pieces of art based off prompts. The art materials and ideas are totally open ended. We want our students to feel freedom in creating! #gomakestuff#arting
Welcome to the art room! It has been insanely busy these first few weeks of school…so busy in fact…that we forgot to post on social media! Here are 7th and 8th graders working on their art journal covers! We love their bold designs. #creativekids#artselfexpression
Check out these awesome animal drawings! Our students are working on a project called “Deconstruction” where they take an animal and portray it realistically, abstractly, and finally non-objectively. We are so impressed! #abstractart#talent
