@NickyPerkss@JohnRichTV No, it'll be the death of all their other sports. Football ain't going away. Women's tennis, swimming, gymnastics etc.... is. Congratulations.
@JohnRichTV@DocMasterFin Every school will try to keep up and beat everyone else. That means more and more spending on football. It would be irresponsible not to. That means other sports get the axe. How do you not see that as a likely outcome?
@JohnRichTV If it was capitalism, they'd be allowed to cut all sports that lose money. So all of them other than football and MBB. That's what you want? Right now Alabama football is funding like 18 other sports. That's not free market capitalism.
@JaxsonDimes@wthomassports At a place like Alabama, their football program funds like 18 other sports. Unless you want to get rid of them. Too bad for those athletes I guess.
@realdanihgh@achristovichh Yes, because now football and basketball players are being paid at their market rate, so the other sports can no longer be subsidized. It's going to happen. Schools have already started cutting sports.
@realdanihgh@achristovichh Because they lose money. Everyone is trying desperately to keep up in football and MBB. When every dollar counts towards maximizing your roster/team, you can't afford to spend millions of dollars on sports that lose money.
@NickyPerkss They don't care about college sports in general. If things keep going as they are, it's inevitable that all non-profit generating sports get cut. Will probably trickle down to the top high school level at some point too.
@Vern_Funquist It's only sustainable if all other sports are cut. Only D-1 MBB and football will exist. That's where this all goes. Probably makes it's way down to the high school level soon too. Say goodbye to college sports.
@brianshall@achristovichh He's 100% right though. Athletic programs aren't going to keep non-revenue sports when every dollar is needed to fund MBB and football. It's the inevitable outcome.
@JaredStillman@KrusaderSpennyT I'm pro free market. Which means we need to cut all non-profit generating college and high school sports. Should've been done a long time ago.
@geoffschwartz Free market model is fine. But we need to cut all non-revenue college sports then. And high school sports since those all lose money. Is that what you want?
