#trust i do not play about WetSand's existence as a gay, noir related story, like i'm very serious about it actually. it might not be "revolutionary" as a piece of literature but it has very important themes to tell all in one so i hate when illiterate people try to take away from it's canon storytelling or recontextualize in harmful ways to make themselves seem so morally superior and this take especially just pissed me off 😭

"if ian was written as a woman," the day we stop trying to moral/immoralise every single thing we do or do not like, especially over fiction—is the day i can die peacefully. you can't claim to love ian if you don't understand that the only reason he exists for you to even be able to know of him as a concept at all and as a character that was made is because he was only created to be written this exact way.

he literally only exists for you to know bc doyak wanted specifically to write a story in which he is a character, that is gay man, who still has agency despite not only the violent and homophobic environment he grew in, but also despite certain people's projection, beliefs and view of how he "has to" or "should" act because of said environment he was in and what he went through in it. and through his agency, as a grown, gay adult—he ends up with another man, named oh taejoon.

this is and always will be the only canon and emotionally truthful version of the story and these characters, because this is what they were made to be, it is the story doyak wanted to tell with them. shin youngwoo only exists for your eyes to look at him, your brain to know of him, and your heart to supposedly "love" him, because he was put out into the universe specifically a strong gay man who was always only conceptualised to go through the journey that ends with him and oh taejoon together.

the same goes for joseph landi, he literally could only exist for you to love him in the story of which tjyw had always existed first, were always intended to end up together, and quite literally were created for one another to love each other as two queer men in queer, noir themes and environments. accept that or shut the fuck up, because again—youngwoo or even your beloved joseph literally wouldn't exist at all for us to be having these conversations otherwise.

and while we're at it, how about we stop trying to create or project straightness, practically misogynistic ideology, and harmful views against victims of abuse in any form onto any queer stories and characters at all in the first place. #WetSand
