For the past 5 years I have lived in a country where lactose intolerance is not even on the radar. Butter, milk and cheese are woven into the French Culture. Yet I wonder what percentage of the population suffers needlessly.
Some are predicting an extremely close race, with the very possibility of an upset. Some say, not even close - impossible for any far-right group to gain a foothold in the government. Some, well, some are just going about their lives in a “new” usual way.
Today is the 1st round of the Presidential Election here in France. This is my 2nd election since moving abroad. I’m a resident, not a citizen, therefore, cannot vote.
Two years of being in pandemic limbo - unable to see or imagine a future - removes a cautious lens. For some, what could be worse than what they have already lived through. How does a presidential election change that?
@john_lichfield Is there data representing those who are truly unable to get the vaccine (immunocompromised, severe health issue, immobility, etc.), thereby separating them from the unvaxxed total, which would then give us a more accurate number/percentage of those left to be vaccinated?

@smougin@NavoditaKumari@Selina_Sykes 🇫🇷As #France's cafes and restaurants get ready to reopen their #terraces in mid-May, #Paris's mayor's office is considering ending the exemption from terrace fees granted to the city's restaurants last year.

Weekly French Covid thread
All stats in the last week moved in the right direction, some more than others. That’s the 1st time that has happened for 2 months. Daily average of cases was 27,857 – a fall of 16.6%. Deaths were down; incidence rate down; acute care slightly down 1/11
An acceleration is promised. Plenty of doses are available. But 220,000+ slots – some with up to 20 jabs each – were untaken across France yesterday. This is partly – but not wholly – due to AZ-refusal. The govt is considering jabbing under 55’s earlier than planned. 9/11
Is #France🇫🇷 really so slow to find a covid vaccine?
@lukeJbrownF24 travels to #Nantes, where two different biotech start-ups have good news: #Valneva is trialling its potential vaccine, and #Xenothera has a covid treatment that could help save lives ⤵️

The bold structural details off this documentary is worth deconstructing. How Peck uses the same white man, dressed in the same clothes. I see what he did there. Again, “am I responsible for my father’s actions?” “Am I my father’s keeper?” #ExterminateAlltheBrutes
