Today, the International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms, the International Conference on Aeolian Research #ICARXI started with a trip to White Sands National Park. In addition to its amazing dunes, White Sands is a major North American dust source! Photo by @silentspring9
A fantastic three days exploring the wonders of biogeography/environmental management with amazing @GeographyOtago GEOG301 students! We got our hands dirty sampling vegetation on the braided rivers of South Canterbury. 🌱🌾 #FieldTripAdventures#EducationBeyondTheClassroom
Aotearoa New Zealand’s single manawa (mangrove) species is only found in the upper North Island. University of Waikato coastal marine Associate Professor Julia Mullarney is on a mission to show how amazing mangroves are, and why we should protect them.

Initial @niwa_nz field data from Omaha in Auckland shows the sand #CycloneGabrielle removed, and how important our barrier beaches are. Summer berm and aeolian ramp are gone, and steep cliff is carved into what was the foredune ridge. Exposed rootlets show at least 5m was removed
Due to the excellent R-Shiny skills of Alys Young, the data from our multi-criteria #livingshorelines suitability analysis for the state of Victoria, Australia can be visualised at: https://t.co/TnL6uyLkub
