Some stories are hard to listen to because the pain is too real.
But imagine going through it alone.
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
It’s gut wrenching to hear the stories of people hurt by abuse in the church. It’s also painful to hear about those who walked away from God as a result. It’s a couple years old now, but I just watched the documentary “The Secrets of Hillsong” and it was hard to watch, especially in light of the uncovering of coverup culture in recent months.
I’m not interested in digging into the abuses and coverups. His bless those He has called to bring light and truth to those things. But seeing things unfold and watching that series got me thinking about the baseline I have operated from in ministry, and how God may be calling me to shift from coasting and trying keeping peace to actively proclaiming His Gospel and seeking reconciliation.
I don’t want to be the reason someone leaves the church or turns away from God… I used to think that was a healthy mindset, but it is the cowardly confession of someone who operates from a baseline of fear rather than trust in the Lord. It may setup safeguards against the most heinous offenses, but also leads to compromise in the name of human approval or perceived peace instead of speaking the truth in the name of Jesus Christ.
The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe. - Proverbs 29:25
Do you sacrifice truth on the altar of the fear of man?
I’m tired of tiptoeing around the people I’ve been afraid to offend. I don’t want to avoid people for the sake of perceived harmony when genuine love means seeking reconciliation. I can’s simply dance around cultural hot-button issues when God’s Word is clear.
So I pray, God give me courage, wisdom, and fill me with Your perfect love.
Wake Up!
Jesus to the church in Sardis: “You have a reputation of being alive… but you are dead.”
Time to strengthen what remains and get ready for the Wedding.

Working on getting some more life out of my @bossinfoglobal Boss GT-6 until I can save enough for its replacement. This thing is over 20 years old and still kicking. Just had some weird things going on with the knobs. Nothing a little @DeoxIT_USA can’t fix. #guitarpedals #vintagegear #worshipguitar #toneonabudget
A lot of people probably need to hear this sermon and apply it, myself included.
I love that the church I belong to and serve in preaches Scripture, doesn't shy away from the hard passages, and extends grace in such as way that leads to repentance.
A timely, convicting, and 🔥 sermon this morning as we work through the seven churches in Revelation. #expositorypreaching#truth

@malachiobrien Those who call for accountability & repentance don’t do so for to be remembered. They do it for the sake of the Church and to honor God.
The accuser doesn’t call people to repentance.
The accuser pushes towards darkness.
A call for accountability seeks the light.
Defending and covering up corruption is fueled by the flesh. And it leads to more and more lies. And who is the father of lies? If exposure causes you to recoil rather than repent, then you might want to ask yourself who you are more aligned with: Jesus or Satan? If your first reaction to a call to accountability is to attack the one exposing things, maybe ask yourself why you are so offended by it. Is your first allegiance to God or to a movement or to a man?
@MikeWingerii The Church should unite and fight… against the corruption and perversion that is prevalent. Where corruption in church leadership exists, it must be addressed and the church must return to her first love, Jesus Christ.
That argument falls apart pretty quickly in light of Scripture. The actions of Judas were the fulfillment of prophecy. Jesus washing his feet was grace extended to him, but not a blanket argument against refusing to confront public sin. The Bible teaches us how to handle church discipline. It’s not easy or comfortable, but there is a right way.
