Hasan on Zohran's efforts to advance the @DemSocialists agenda: This is precisely the reason why I say that he's still a movement guy. This is the point. First, you run as a Democratic Socialist & you run on issues. You run on how you're going to improve people's lives. Then you win. Then I can point to that & say 'See, he did it, you can too.' Other people pay attention to that & they go, 'I like winning. I'd like to do that as well.' Then from that point on, you govern as a Democratic Socialist. You associate Democratic Socialism with a clear, definable agenda, with identifiable goals you want to advance & you achieve those goals. Then you re-instill confidence in good governance & you associate good governance with Democratic Socialism. Then you expand on that victory. You take the momentum off that victory, you continue organizing & mobilizing. You add more numbers as others who are also running as Democratic Socialists, winning as Democratic Socialists & governing as Democratic Socialists. This is how you do it. This is why he was elected into this position of power." - @hasanthehun 👏🏽
Mamdani: I think we need to have a platform and a vision that doesn't sound as if it was cooked up by consultants, but instead one that you would say in response to someone who's asking, why can't I afford my rent? Why can't I afford my groceries? Why can't I afford my child care
'Who does a political party belong to if not the voters?' is such a great answer, he's on a generational run. Oddly, it empowers him that he can't run for president and I hope Republicans are dumb enough to try make him the face of the Democrats.
Moderate dems after the GOP overturns Roe, guts voting rights, and collapses entire democratic institutions: When they go low we go high but also use curse words now :)
Moderate dems after DSA wins two primaries:
Biden treated the left better than any president in memory. If they were first in line to call for his retirement, the establishment would’ve noticed the betrayal, and the GOP would’ve called it a left-wing coup. In a way their reticence was the opposite of what Mamdani just did.
typical of an early stage of a dictatorship when the dictator hasn't fully grasped how he is loathed & if he wants the masses to attend his rallies he will have to give orders for every seat to be filled under threat of death.
so maybe things are not so dire, yet: this is still an early stage.
.
Hot take here, but if the old guard of the Democratic Party wants to win, they should consider having a vision for what they’d do to tackle the problems people are facing & organizing to communicate that vision out. 🤷♀️
@cushbomb Remember how every year he would re-post his experiences of the historical events of that day until he got a job as a consultant for the government of Saudi Arabia and he dropped the annual tradition?
The response from Letitia James, Hakeem Jeffries, Jamie Harrison etc has essentially been to claim their candidates were entitled to victory and that it was underhanded (and maybe racist) to primary them. Not exactly a mystery why that wing of the party is struggling with voters.
