«Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? —
Friends, isolation—not to be confused with the solitude of the saints, which is ordered toward others and toward God—goes against our human nature. Thus, anything that pushes us into isolation will eventually give rise to all kinds of psychological suffering.
We’re social animals, and we need companionship and communion.
His homily, just before being killed, was on how much time people give to God vs. worldly concerns. His last words were: “One day all of us who are here will also die.”
It makes me pause and look at my own life, for sure. It makes me wonder if Our Lord took this priest to make us all sit up and take notice. Not that the priest did something wrong, but in fact, did something right - and our Lord took him at that moment to place an exclamation mark on what he said.
Even if that isn’t the case, it’s the effect it had in me. I must re-evaluate my own use of time.
Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari's last words,
spoken during a livestreamed Mass on October 17, 2026, focused on the transience of life and devotion to God and family.
Minutes before a large wooden crucifix fell from the wall of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Guayaquil, Ecuador, he told the congregation: "One day, all of us here will also die, and sometimes the time we've spent on things doesn't have as much meaning as the time we spend with God".
He continued by urging people to prioritize
"the quality time we give to God, to our brothers and sisters, to our husbands, wives, children, and family - that time is the best spent".
During the sermon he also asked parishioners to put down their phones and devote time to God and loved ones, and he had just begun another prayer asking God to bless those present when the crucifix detached.
The Archdiocese of Guayaquil confirmed Father Sánchez Molinari, 53, died the same day. A Eucharist in his memory was scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2026, and the circumstances of why the crucifix fell remain under review.
May his gentle soul rest in peace 🕊️
